The thing about bike racks versus like spare tire carriers, etc is the ridiculous leverage they apply. Basically 200 pounds on a 4-5 foot pry bar. That much height wants to bounce and move and do everything it can to remove your hitch from the frame. Tires and fuel cans usually sit right on the...
for the trailer thing, I bought the exact same thing pictured above, but used on craigslist for $80. Bought it for the title and reg, now building what I need out of it. Dump the tires and axle and you can get unit bearings matching your tow vehicles wheel bolt pattern off ebay for as low as $30...
Well, i LOVE seeing fresh ideas as much as the next builder so best of luck to you!
I feel kinda cheated as i used to love creation threads, but now i can't really play because now my stupid ideas are directly relevant to feeding my family! D'oh!
So good luck to you all!
Certainly not saying don't build your own, that would make me a hypocrite! I AM asking that find your own path while doing it is all.
I actually started out with my own fab shop building tube chassis and crawlers, still in the overland and prerunner thing...
On a side note, people think...
There simply just isn't a more humbling compliment that an experienced fabricator saying you've done something right and then not copying his work. My sincerest thank you, Britt. I appreciate that more than you'll ever know.
This thread really isn't about the Recon Racks, so I'll butt out...
Sorry, if you guys knew what I had into building those wheel baskets you'd understand. Trying to pull off a 4" radius would be ridiculous and would require a full rework on my laser cut sheet, an additional length bungee to keep track of and have on hand...for maybe a half dozen possible sales...
I appreciate getting the word out, but I really don't have any desire to climb in bed with ANYONE on these yet. Im comfortable with the direction I'm headed with these and don't want that to change.
Once I "release" this thing, I'll know more about what I'll want to do.
Anyone slapping someone...
Don't know how many, if any, of you are automotive junkies too, but I just found out that one of my racks still be on the back of a concept truck in the Rotiform Wheels/Magnaflow booth at SEMA! I'm pretty freaking stoked...
Long gone are the days of the 48lb Kona Stinky and cheap paint. The carbon age presents a whole new challenge, but it's more than just that now...we are past hucking and heavy metal. Bicycles are precision machines, and expensive ones. I think they deserve more than being hung from the backs of...
Well thanks man. :)
It's the culmination of 8 years of driving driving home with broken rack parts and bicycles stuffed into the back of whatever vehicle I happened to have at the time until I started getting it right!
I won't say it's the end result though...I feel like there's something...
I tried to do things that made sense. Im continuously amazed at the fact that people-MOST people-have no problems spending $7000 on a bike then bang it against 5 other bikes or use a rack that itself causes damage. Wtf? Even if it saves them $100 it's worth it to them.
But the wheel baskets...
Hey guys...
The racks totally enduro. Fenders fit no prob. I'm actually working on helmet hooks at this very moment, sure they'll hold goggles just fine.
And currently at the laser cutters are my prototype snowboard and tool racks that bolt to the shuttle rack... I've had a tool carrier for...
shameless plugs really aren't my thing, but I'm pretty obscure and hard to find at this point... working on a website, etc as I go, but I'm pretty lousy at this Business stuff to be honest, I'm just a garage rat and not much more. But it seems people are looking for alternatives to the current...
