I have been using RockShox (SRAM) Redrum for about a year with good results. I use it in the air chamber of forks as well as the air chambers of rear shocks. Works as good as FFF.
I have had the same problem (wobbling) and it turned out to be a spacer that was a little too short and would not allow the stem washer to seat fully without hitting the fork steerer tube. Changed it out for a slightly longer one and the problem was solved.
Yep, I am running my 9 speed crank (22-34) with my new 10 speed shifters/chain/cassette (11-34) and XT+ GS rear derailleur. Works awesome. I have had no issues with the 9 speed front chinrings with a 10 speed chain.
Think of it this way. The fork does not work now, so if you modify it and it still does not work, you are in the same boat, but if it does work, you just gave it new life for relatively little effort. If it does not work, then you still have to get a new fork.
You can call some fork rebuilders...
