I have used all three brakes you mention. Hopes and Saint on my dh-race bike and Juicy 7 on my trail bike.
Go for the SaintsThey are as good as the Juicy 7 and way better than the M4 brakes. Juicy 7 or Codes will probably rival them, but since you do not like the lever I guess they are out of...
I'll build it reasonably light within a budget.
Fork: Marzocchi 888 WC 07
Brakes: Shimano Saint
Cranks: shifter and derailleur Shimano XT
Headset, seat and handlebar: Sunline V1
Wheels: Hadley on Mavic 721 rims.
That's roughly it. Should be quite good.
Ok, so I repainted my Ventana El Cuervo. The colour is RAL 2004 with a silver/gold sparkle finnish. The frame is actually the second edition cuervo, but with new bearings and paint it should last a few more years.
Looking forward to the racing season.
More pictures to come
I ride a Ventana ElCuervo with Hadley hubs. The spacing is 150mm but I run a floating caliper. The body of the Hadley hub is a 150mm hub body. But the axel is 137,5 to accomodate the floating caliper. The axel is chopped of at the disc brake side. (I can easily retro fit a 150mm axel and put the...
Who doesn't?
I'm really looking forward to get some runs in on the DHX on my El Cuervo. Last year I rode a Big Hit with an Avalanche, and while I must admit that I do want an Ava on my Ventana, that DHX seems real nice. To bad there's still to much snow here.
So, how much difference do...
Good to see that you ordered it with a RP3. I switched to a RP3 after two years on a Romic. It has really improved the ride of this bike. While the Romic was great on large and small hits, the RP3 feels far superior overall. It is much more controlled through the travel and takes the middle...
Waaaayyyy cooooler!!!! ;-)
Funny though that you guys in the USA want to move here to Norway because of the biking while we here in Norway say that we want to move over the pond because of the same reasons.
Hi!
I'm at the stage where I'm deciding what kind of components I shall put on my new frame. It will be a Ventana El Cuervo.
Has anybody ridden downhill racing, and a bit of freeride with the new XT cranks? They have a great price and Shimano porducts have always been reliable.
Ok, here we go again.. Trying to keep this thread vital.
Yesterday we went to Fredrikstad (pics from the same place as the first pictures), 2 hours south of Oslo and the day turned out to be the best day in ages.
Nice weather, nice riding. Just a brilliant day to be out.
Here's the...
Check out this movie from two of the local guys in Oppdal Norway.

The national championship in Norway will be held there this weekend. Looking forward to trying some of this stuff on saturday evening.
Yep, one of the models (can't remember if there are more) has got air assist. The Stance series is a budget version of the Sherman series. The forks have steel inner legs and the cheapest models got fluid flow dampening. The more expencive gets of course more sophisticated internals.
Consider...
I don't care how good, fantastic, awesome, awfull.... your bike is as long as you have that dorky looking seat. Yellow and blue, looks like you're Swedish. :)
No, it's real small. 5-6 races each year. everybody knows each other really well. No teams with vans and flashy clothes. Just enthusiasts spending all their money on travelling to the races and hooking up with friends. It's a real down to earth grassroots cup.
Wait until Trond posts the pictures from Oppdal. That's a great area both for downhilling and trail riding. (Oppdal will be hosting the Norwegian downhill championship this year)
