    Eric Carter Flow Riding Video

If anyone ever asks what "All Mountain" is, you could show them your video as a definition. I think you've got good style and I can tell you really know those trails. You stick to them and rock very well with its contours. The music suits it and it's a fairly compelling video to watch because...

Building a 26" BMX Cruiser - this post is about cockpits

I was planning on the Profile cranks and hubs. Might as well make it a Profile stem as well. I've been lusting after this frame for many years and this will be a slow build, and one where quality comes first.

Building a 26" BMX Cruiser - this post is about cockpits

That's good info - thanks! I'll go with the 50mm stem. Regarding the stance - I'm not really too sure what I'll be happy with. Unfortunately my attempt to find a local owner of one didn't turn up any riders so I don't know what it'll feel like one way or the other. The laid back stance sounds...

Building a 26" BMX Cruiser - this post is about cockpits

Before too long I'll be building up a 26" Firemans Texas Cruzer: It's going be my all-around "play" bike and ridden when it's not necessary to take my mountain bike. It'll see a lot of casual city riding and the occasional dirt jump. Handlebars What rise should I be looking for? It...

So I decided to take apart my headset...

Thanks - I guess I'll pick up a new headset with my next paycheck. I found this Cane Creek S-2 on sale at Pricepoint for $30.00. What's a fair price to expect a bike shop to press my headset cups and set the race if I do the rest of the work myself? Or is it even worth doing it myself if...

So I decided to take apart my headset...

Yeah that is pretty close. I guess the idea is to lay the race on the crown, slide the PVC over the steerer, and hit it with a mallet? When I set the race on there yesterday, it was pretty tight on the crown - what's the difference in setting it by hand and driving it on there? My bike is...

So I decided to take apart my headset...

It all came off the fork by hand - this is not developing in a good way :( Well, my bike is out of commission for a bit anyway while I have a new freehub body on order so at least I'm not missing any good rides. Plus, the weather sucks rightnow.

So I decided to take apart my headset...

That's disappointing about the crown race needing a shop to service it. What would happen if I just slid it on top of the fork? I'm not saying that's my plan - I'm just wondering.

So I decided to take apart my headset...

Here's what I'm looking at. To the best of my knowledge, this is all that came off of the bottom side of the assembly.

It's a Cane Creek headset. It says VP-A51A on the top.

So I decided to take apart my headset...

This morning, hopped up on coffee and delusions of grandeur, I decided to take apart, clean, and put back together my headset. I watched a of it being done and since it only took the dude 5 minutes to do it, I figured it would only take me 20 minutes. [This is the part in the movie where the...

How long do you expect your bike to last?

One positive thing that came out of this sudden feeling of inadequacy was the realization that I need to take better care of my bike. I've decided to try wrenching on my own bike now, rather than place trust in repair shops which never seem meet my expectations. I figure if I can at least keep...

How long do you expect your bike to last?

I ride a 2006 Preston with the majority of parts from a 2004 P.3 and a fork from 2005. This weekend I suddenly started wanting a new bike. I started making excuses for the purchase - the parts are four years old - aren't I past due for a new setup? But by Sunday I must have come to my senses...

    Schaeffer Farm opening date?

As long as we can gain access to the parking lot we'll be okay. I'm not going to be hiking on the trails - I'm looking more to get out to one of the big fields around there with as little walking as possible. Hiking is for squares.

    Schaeffer Farm opening date?

Is any part of the area open at all to pedestrians? My wife and I will be going up to Germantown to drop my bike off at Avalon Cycles and I'd like to bring my dog to play in one of the fields at the Farms. I won't have my bike or anything - I just want to walk around with my wife and my dog.

Building alone in the woods - how do I appear less sketchy?

The property does not belong to me and is on the fringes of a neighborhood park. There's a paved fitness path and if you follow it all the way to the end of the park a little trail goes into the woods. That trail heads up a hill and eventually diminishes into a thicket of bramble and trees and...
