Sooo... resurrecting an ancient thread. Out of the forums for a while due to all kinds of life stuff going on. Just had the FB10 jacked by some idiot. If you see one floating around the marketplace, let me know.
I've run a Lyrik Air and a Totem coil. Coil is hands down the way to go if you are looking for a smooth traveling fork. The Totem is perhaps my favourite fork ever (I run a Boxxer too).
Personally, I 'd look at a beefy 6"-7" bike, like the Specialized SX Trail, or perhaps one of the brand new Treks. More on the FR side of an AM build, if you know what I mean. I run a full on DH bike, a 6"/7" FR bike, and a hardtail. If I could have only one, it would without question be the...
I 'm running Answer Protapers @ 780mm and really like 'em. Very comfortable bar. Others to consider are the Race Face Atlas FR and the Chromag bars (although the Chromags are stupid expensive). I like the idea behind the extendable ODI's, but have no first hand experience.
I managed an involuntary 3/4 front flip off that very step up last week (quite a bit too "lofty," you might say), followed by a free ride to the Whistler clinic where I struggled mightily to say more than 3 numbers in reverse order...
^^almost, but not quite as bad a sound as that.
Check to make sure the stanchions are properly aligned with each other. Mine was making the same kind of sound, and when I looked closer one of my stanchions was sitting a few mm higher in the crown than the other. I realigned everything and the...
I may be around during that time as well. Fire off a PM as it gets closer. Whistler is a hell of a place to ride. Trails for everybody from the tame to the insane. Gotta love it.
I had exactly this experience when I first started riding with a full face helmet. Took a lot more than 3 days to get used to it. Come to think of it, I had a similar experience when bike helmets were first introduced on a large scale (yeah, I'm old, so what?). Took a while to get used to...
If you are just getting into the sport, I'd suggest going with a sturdy hardtail. It will be more similar to the BMX bikes you used to ride, and it will get you out on the trail with other riders who have other kinds of bikes that you might try out. It will save you a whole heap of $ as well...
I'm already in BC, so not exactly sure which insurance to go for, but definitely go for it. Last week a friend broke his arm and SHATTERED his helmet (TLD D3, I think - never seen anybody blow up a helmet like that!) on A-Line. Got a ride in the ambulance back to Lion's Gate hospital in...
I'm running Minion DHF on my DH bike and Bontrager Big EArls on my FR bike at Whistler with great results in both cases. If you really want to try the Muddy Marys, why not go 2.5. It won't kill you.
Hard to tell what conditions will be like by July. Usually it does not get really dusty -...
Hayes Mags - very off or on, but no where near a powerful as...
Shimano XT/Old Saint which are poor compared to ...
Avid Juicy 7s, which have the modulation of the XTs but a lot more power, though not as much as...
Avid Elixir CRs - which I really, really like. 1 finger braking for full days at...
UPDATE:
Well it has been a while since I updated this, but now I have spent a lot more time rolling on this bike I can say a few more things.
First, it actually took me a lot longer to get used to the feel of this bike that I had anticipated. The first few rides felt good, but weird (not bad...
Given that you will be riding the Shore 80% of the time, you might end up finding both bikes to be too much. I find that I ride my 6x6 bike most, even on Cypress. That having been said, I suspect the Wilson might be a bit better suited because of the higher BB. You can also adjust the geo on...
