Speaking of neck braces, any advice on a shop in NC that sells them? I don't know anything about them, but would like to as I've broken several vertebrae across a couple of wrecks. Turns out I'm a poor cyclist...
Great idea on Pandapas, old farm trail would be super fun! And rocky knob is great too.
How about Matthews State Forest outside of Galax, VA? Never hear of anything up there, has some steep/fun/pedally stuff. Or Fisher River in Dobson or San-Lee in Sanford? Both may be too flat, though
This sounds awesome, but I'm playing a gig in Raleigh that weekend. Its a big 3 day thing though, so if I can get our time slot on the first day, I'm down! If I pre-reg and can't get out ya'll mailing out shirts? And prizes for DFL, because if I'm there that **** is locked up!
Thanks for showing me the ropes! Already ordered my pads (and gloves that will hopefully hold up better should another tree jump out right in front of me.) Figure I'll go race next weekend, and be sure I'm still in love before ordering a downhill bike, though. Lets go last place beginner!

Sorry, more pestering here! My trail bike is a Trek Slash 7, but I run a single ring with a chain guide and some I9 enduro wheels. I've got the old ****kicker wheels I could throw back on. Any recommendations for tires in the NC hills?
Clealan, I'd love that! Any day better for you than...
Cool, thanks for the responses. I have a fullface the LBS gave me as a joke after a nasty crash which I can finally use! I'm looking forward to it. I'm a painful equipment geek and have always been drawn to cross bikes and downhill bikes as the most beautiful of all. If this goes well I think...
Hey all! I'm looking at doing the first race in this series as my first downhill race. No real aspirations to do well, just want to try it and survive! Will the beginner course be doable on a 6" trail bike? Should I look into any pads? I'd consider myself to an advanced intermediate rider and...
