Joe,
I recently helped a guy upgrade his old Manitou original elastomer 1" tube fork to a Marzocchi MX comp in the 1" version. They still make it, I believe, but not everybody carries it. Sometimes you can find em on jenson or other onliners, but no guarantees. Right now Nashbar has a sale...
Ya, the guy's name is Jonathon Mayfield, and he and he's redoing the whole area for a Boy Scout (Eagle Scout?) badge. Essentially, he wanted to do this for a long while anyway, so thought he'd kill two birds with one stone.
He lives at Mount Hermon and rides a Chameleon single speed and a...
The sad fact is that the stunt was likely built by the younguns amongus, who may never see these posts, or don't have the maturity to give a crap. I work at a camp near Felton which has a small stunt area frequented mostly by teens who sometimes put junk like that together. Recently someone...
First, I have to say you guys are soooooo much friendlier than mtbr.com people...maybe they're an older crowd? seems like they're sort of stuck in the mud...
Anyway,I thought about running the fox down to 100 or 80 after i posted it.
I am using 36-18 without a tensioner on a vertical dropout...
What do you think for racing single speed at Sea Otter:
4-ish inch travel Rock Shox Judy Long travel (2000 model)
or
5 inch travel Fox Vanilla 2002 model, heavier but with LOCKOUT
thanks for the input...anyone out there tried both in a race? That is, both with and without lockout?
paul
Well, dang...I missed it.
I rode out there on my single sp today (25th) around 3-4 but had to take the 24th off...I did get that creak out of my main BB bushing on my enduro yesterday, though.
Have a good ride?
I'll see you up there one of these days...I'm up there all the time.
Invite me if...
It's a simple no namer like the one pictured by dirtjump. I'd recommend going with an old derailleur, or a nicer singulator, but if you're on a super cheap budget, and you want to try to make this one work, you can have it for shipping. Probably 5 bucks or somethin.
Let me know...I can send a...
What's the loudest noise you've ever heard on the trail?
Was riding with a buddy yesterday, and after landing from a jump, a mile down the road I hear sssss-BOOOOM!!!
The tube had escaped from the tire and exploded...loud enough to hurt my ears.
Here's a pic of the tube, though it's hard to...
FYI, you can ride all of the Nisene Fire Road (Aptos Creek Fire Rd.) right now if you like. The ban will not take effect until the appeal is filed and lost. It's sort of in limbo right now, so if you've wanted to ride from Aptos to Buzzard Lagoon, or to Demo, or if you're worried about ridin...
My friend Todd and I go ride on the weekdays a lot, but alas, didn't see your post till too late
Up for a ride tomorrow, Fri?
Definitely XC/DH...no shuttling. Burning legs, FS bikes, small air, lots of miles.
Paul
Well, this might be redundant, but here's a thread for all your supermen, barbies, spongebobs, and ridemonkeys that grace your favorite ride, or perhaps your camelbak.
Got a stuffed animal or plastic doll that you attach to your frame or body while riding?
If you don't, go buy a toy action...
I got one of those gusset things a while ago, and have used it from day one. Works great, but if I had to do it over, I'd have ghottorigged my giant with spacers and whatever, just to save moola. They say, though, that the gusset deal clamps down on the cog really well, esp. if you run an 18...
The Iguana, I think, may be too tall for me by about a half an inch...maybe an inch.
I'll have to ride it more to see.
I'll keep my eye out for a cheap, slightly shorter bike I can compare it to, but for now, I haven't ridden it enough to know how it feels.
I've liked the simplicity, though...
So here's my question:
Singlespeeds have their own geometry. Right now I just have a Giant Iguana MTB that's converted--it has a long travel Rock Shox '00 Judy, but in the future I'd like to get a SS frame.
What makes a SS frame SS? They're longer, I know, and they tend to have sloping top...
