To replace a tire or not?

if you're going to spring for new tires, I highly recommend checking ebay. I was flatting CONSTANTLY and a friend suggested I try Michelin Pro Race 2. Got a set for 60 and change including shipping. There are tons of new tires for sale. (oh, and I haven't had a flat since I changed out the...

Guys (and gals) - PLEASE check your ass!

It seems that there are several guys (and one of the women) on the group rides that I do every Saturday that are in SEVERE need of a new pair of cycling shorts: they've become see through. :nono: There's always at least one or two. Now, I appreciate a nice ass crack as much as the next girl...

    prepping for longish rides

Obviously, Kcals burned will depend on weight + effort, but if a rider is going to try a 70 miler, don't you think riding at or near AT will be counterproductive to finishing the ride? Especially if its his first one?

Double vs Triple with regards to knees

I love my triple. But then, I always like to have lots of options. :)

    prepping for longish rides

I think 1200 is a bit on the high side. I always ride with a HR monitor that tracks Kcal - and when I did a 44 mile ride on Saturday at a fairly hard pace, I only burned just over 1200 during the 2-1/2 hours. Agree on the Powerbar assessment - but they always give me gas! Essentials for a...

    avoiding flats

Since we're on the subject of tubes, and me being fairly new to the sport (1 year), I have a question on tube sizes. I don't mean to sound like a total dork, but whenever I needed a spare, I'd just ask the shop for a new tube for my 700's and they'd give me a 700 x 18/23. Then a few weeks ago...

    Woo hoo, my first century!

Nonsense! I rode my first century only about 2 months after I first got on a road bike. And no, I hadn't been riding anything else before that, just played an occasional hockey game. My longest training ride before that ride was only 63 miles. I followed a 7 week program that Chris...

Why no chic teams in TdF?

The female version of the TdF is called Le Grand Boucle Feminine (or something like that). It took place in June I believe.

    Riding in the heat...

I concur with the one water bottle with ice water and occasionally squirt yourself with it. For my electrolyte mix - I just take a few packets of salt that you get at fast food restaurants and add it to my gatorade mix. On a particularly hot day a few weekends ago (south Texas), I loosely tied...

    Woo hoo, my first century!

I've done four centuries in the last year, including one 120 miler, and I'm new to the sport since last August. The last one I did was this past weekend and finished in a smidgen under 6 hours, my best so far. Anyone is capable of a century ride with a little bit of training and the right...

Best Part of Le Tour So Far

from what I understood, the motorcycle driver was trying to create a wedge between the spectator and the two cyclists to get them clear. The dumb@ss ended up tripping and falling under the motorcycle instead.

    I need new tires

I've been riding a road bike since August. Specialized Allez fitted with Specialized Mondo Comp, 700 x 23c Kevlar bead tires. I've had three flats already. The roads I ride are not particularly rough or debris strewn (city roads or highway - all clean and even pavement), and I'm a petite...
