Decided to finish @Nick's drill rack today because I wanted a brain break from working on the cabinets. Not pretty, but it works and used up a bunch of the scrap wood I was going to throw away, so there ya go.

It's his annual bout of croup. Dude is already feeling better.
I had that as a kid, it sucked. Will never forget the night I woke up sleeping, couldn't breathe and ended up rolling off my bed, smashing my nose on the floor. That was a long night.

But luckily it goes away after time.

Pissing rain here all day, better than the predicted snow though.

Slept in and read all sorts of stuff about the Hanford site. Interesting stuff...

The brake pedal slowly went to the floor when I was parking at the open space. Stuck my head into the wheel wells and sure enough, one of the rubber lines had a split.

Should be an easy enough fix. Probably going to get new plugs and wires while it's there... 135K miles I suppose it's due. :D
A real man would have driven home. MAGA!

Cabinets are almost done. Face boards on the toe kicks just need to be nailed in, but I was too tired to pull the compressor out of the shed. Otherwise it's just waiting on the countertop.

@boostindoubles @Jozz I've decided to just go with butcher block and get it sprayed. Would.you just do standard birch or are they all effectively the same since we're painting them?

Your countertops are going to be painted butcher block? Get whatevers cheap cause you will be adding patina immediately. I ripped down on old board I had been saving and my friend glued/sanded/sealed it for me. My kids are fucking the island top all up but good that's why I went with a softer wood.

Don't even get me started about the painting. I have been arguing for weeks and will lose this argument, so I'm just going along now. Part of the reason I have the MDF there is to lighten up that corner of the room so she can see it. I might get a big piece of melamine to show the white, comparatively; it's relatively cheap.

Edit: She doesn't want patina - she just wants white. Wants me to take it to someone and have it sprayed to match the cabinets.

Does she have to have butcher block? Why not save money and do a plywood/mdf/formica-ish counter tops? Any color you want. That what we did. Nice island and formica everything else. I had a few boards left over and we ripped them down and made trim pieces. It turned out pretty well and was cheap.

Cost/time. I can get a birch 10' block for $370 shipped. If I do ply, then I have to join them to reach 10' + a second layer. That's a lot of work and no guarantees I can get the joint level.

Does the Block come ready to install? It will probably need finishing/stain/seal. Gluing and cutting all that is work but the materials are cheap. Finding formica-ish products in stock is a bitch and the waiting can suck.

Already edged, I'll cut it, then find someone who paints cabinets to spray it. Probably just the guy that painted our kitchen cabinets, as he has a booth. Hopefully he can fit a 10' block into his booth.

In the bathroom, fighting a battle
Had both sets of parents over for lunch to celebrate the minions impending 2nd birthday. Mine showed up 30 minutes early, hers showed up an hour late. Both wanted to watch the kiddo open their presents, but neither could be assed to come into the living room, finally got them together, missed nap time by an hour. Late nap means no nap, no nap means kid with a cough turned into kid with a gnarly cough and a case of the grumps.

Said oh well, I guess I’ll have to take tomorrow off, between the 4 grandparents I got zero volunteers to watch the minion. Just critiques of my kid for being too grumpy, and home because as it turns out raising a kid takes a lot of time and Reno projects have taken a back seat.

TLDR, I envy orphans

I briefly considered it, but using the parking brake to get home seemed... unwise. :D
Vice grips on the busted line, send it.

Won a desert race I was codriving doing it, still have the vice grips, use them all the time.

In the grandparents' defense... they probably all told him not to have kids. :D
Negative, they’re all a littler miffed we only have 1 and waited so long to spawn, they need more grandkids and needed them earlier so they can enjoy more time with them, Lolz. “Raising kids isn’t stressful” says my parents who lived off a single income and still had plenty of help, both babysitting and financial, from the grandparents. Hers just dropped her off with the grandparents so they could go to the casino, they’re still degenerate gamblers who can’t get away to visit the grandkids, but do have time to go to vegas at least once a month, and the local Co casinos 2-3x.

Looking at our parents I can’t for the life of me figure out how we ended up as un-fucked up as we did. Good times.
