Some of this was "deferred" and the water pump - dunno... just noticed the leak while the truck was sitting in the driveway...

I've never viewed any vehicle purchase as an investment, but I know what you're saying. :D

To be fair - this F150 has been literally maintenance-free for 120K miles except for standard maintenance like oil changes, brakes, and tires.

The local shop quoted me $800 for water pump, two belts, and a coolant flush. That seems... excessive.

$100 in parts, but how much labor is involved? Perhaps you could fix it yourself? Like Stoney with the M?

That work would take me about 30 minutes on my old Volvo, about 3 days on a modern car.

In hell. Welcome!
Ugh. Work anxiety was spiking this morning here, too, but having mostly given up on "important" crap in life helps. Spent most of the day in meetings so far, moar incoming in 15. To add insult to injury, I mistyped my 1st PR of the year as "Ass instructions" instead of "Add instructions..." Now that's gonna leave a mark, I am sure.

Yeah - I used to work on cars... I don't any more. Parts quote for pump & 2 belts was over $300. Maybe they're spec'ing gold-plated pumps and belts made out of kevlar? :D

At this point, I would pay $800 for that service. High for what you could do on your own, but belts suck ass.

I need to flush the transmission on the Subaru and am on the fence about just paying to have it done. It will be $400 vs. $100 for fluid, but damn if it won't take me a whole fucking day to do it by myself.

The cost of labor for the F150 will be substantially less than the M. If the M labor had been closer to the F150 price, a lot more likely would have been paid for vs. me doing. Fucking M-specialist mechanics in Denver-metro all charge $200/hr+. Even the normal BMW shops charged higher rates when they found out it was an M - even if it was a service identical to the non-M 5-series.

Should we go to the 1970’s Czech model?
the cars would be AMAZING:banana:

(but there might be more Pilsner options for you lushes)
How about the 2020s Czech model instead? The cars are amazing, manual transmissions still rule the roost, and no fucking excise tax either. :(

Is it naptime yet? Just got a quote for 2.25% on the mtge. $4k in pts, but downstream is huge interest savings. If I factor the 1m with no payment as part of the refi, that makes the $4k only $2500. I might just do that... 2.25% on a 30yr. What in the fuck?

I don't want to go to work tonight. I will, because, well, because.

Meanwhile fucking about in the garage, cooking, binge listening to Mark Lanegan.

I thought it was kind of high in general. Contacted another local shop (specializes in 4x4 work) and they quoted me well under $500 for the whole thing. Guess I'll take it over there on Wednesday...

I have about 3y left on mine. :fancy:

Doesn't mean it won't be paid off before then. Just cheapest way currently.
I shouldn't judge since I don't know how old you are. I have friends in their 50s still on 10-15 years mortgages. But they have really nice SUVs! ;)
