getting a little anxious about our near future...local grocery store is running out of shit. No bananas, no red peppers, no cantaloupe, whole bunch of other stuff missing. Only a matter of time before that stuff starts picking up. Omicron is gonna hit hard :(

Going for a hike. Making pizzas tonight, woot.

Just witnessed an accident on the freeway. Saw a Toyota Camry slam into the back of a van, which was stopped in the center lane. Center lane was littered with boxes and luggage bags.

The lady in the Camry started getting out of her car - fuckkkk. It literally just happened so people were still swerving all over to avoid the mess, including a dump truck with trailer, whose tires locked up and were smoking. I noped right out of there, did not want to also witness her getting smoked.

And then low and behold, a few kilometers up, there's a red pickup truck overloaded with luggage and crap. No straps. I wonder who caused all that....:disgust1:
A dude spun out on i84 in Boise two days ago, got out of his truck and was obliterated by the next truck that spun out.

Don't get out of the car obviously but people do funny shit when they're in chaos.

Right. The empty shelves of our grocery stores start reminding me of living in socialism. It takes luck to buy fresh bakery. I need to stock up on flour, salt and olive oil.

Wife went on a grocery run yesterday and made the same observation. The "don't be an alarmist" part of me wants to think it's just preparation for new years parties tonight, but that doesn't help the COVID situation either.

Been grocery shopping in Boise the last few days and am finding stocks stores and no shortages of anything. Maybe Idahoans aren't easily panicked?

No fatalities reported as of yet but many missing persons probably due to the tens of thousands in evacuation, Current estimates put structure losses over 600 and possibly into the 700's and several shopping centers and infrastructures lost. Most evacuations have been lifted.
I think it's not gonna be good. Started mid-day, during the week, over break. There were probably lots of kids home while parents were at work. God, I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not holding my breath. The big hope is that most of the missing persons are out of town and haven't contacted or been able to contact friends/family.

Had to have a chat with Haley about open space fires yesterday, since we had it running on the news most of last night. If we're not home and a fire starts or she gets an evacuation notice on her phone, she needs to grab Layla and go door-door in the neighborhood until she gets someone to take her, all while working her way down to our major street quickly (6-lane, 4-min downhill running full speed). Thankfully the large open space, for the most part is uphill from us, so that makes running away a downhill process.

Mormons don't drink the booze either so I suspect NYE isn't as big of a deal re: shopping for parties...

The 2nd largest Mormon population in America is found in Idaho. The number of Mormons is approximately 444,614 people which translates to 26.42% of the total population. There are 4 temples used by Mormons in Idaho. The Mormon influence is mostly in the eastern parts of Idaho.

Shortage of fresh non-seasonal produce in the north east during an epic supply chain crisis? Not sure I’d put that down the Cov just yet.

Shortages of pastaand beans may be a better indicator or people getting ready for lock downs.

Local markets here are stocked to the gills with most stuff, and completely out of other things with seemingly no rhyme or reason. I paid $3.50/lb for ground Waygu, but there wasn’t a pack of ground chuck to be found. Paid $0.05/each for avocados, but there were zero strawberries despite living in the strawberry capital of the universe and literally watching them get picked daily from my office. The world is weird right now, I had to order a Minion DHR 2 from England because there were none to be found here.

Just curious, you are always talking about your mountain house, but all pics you post from it show fairly flat surroundings and no high mountains in the background. Bad camera angles? Plateau?
His palatial mountain house is in tha valley, but surrounded by some fairly impressive peaks.

Mornin. . . I mean afternoon.

Day off of office gig.

Parts runs all morning to work on my old ass equipment. Helped neighbor farmer cut a tree and clean up an old garage he’s tearing down. Making tacos tonight and partying hard until about 9:30 if I make it that long

2021 had some very high stress moments for me, but I am trying hard to remove those elements and people from my life in 2022

Well,I woke up early as usual and did nothing but take the dog’s out. I lost my Father last year to Covid. For some reason this memory came to mind. It was just before New Year’s,like the 27th,1972 or 73? I don’t how I can remember this as I was just a child. We pulled up to NY airport like alway’s at TWA terminal. I look’ed up an saw a TWA 747 flying away. Dad,is that our plane? No Son,it is not. We get to the ticket Lady, and she said,Yes you missed your flight. The old Man did not change his watch. I don’t remember where we came from? I can tell you this, that was the Only time we were late. Shit,Father had us up 3 hours before check in. We did what they do now back then.IE,hour’s before check in we were there. The Old Man alway’s smelt good, and would alway’s Hug All the TWA women. They Loved it,from my memory. They would Alway’s say”you smell wonderful”. To me,these were very pretty women who also smelt well. He also had connection’s that were wonderful.

So here we are in NY with no plane goin out till the following day. Dad makes a phone call and we stay overnight at one of his former mechanic’s who transferred from Sadia,to NY. Again up early, dark out,we had to go. I remember taking a shower, and the Apartment. I remember the walk out to the Cab with baggage. My hair was wet from the shower, the walk to the cab was not even 40 second’s. My hair was crunchy and frozen when I touched it inside the Cab. Never forget it,NY Cold. Coming from a desert,I reckon that is why I remember it. We left early because Dad’s friend had to go to work. For some reason,we had to get to Newark? This is the my memory.

Dad had us fly in a Helicopter,at night to Newark. Short ride, but one that is forever in my mind. The pilot flew around the Twin Tower’s with all the Light’s on them for the Holiday’s. He then opened the Door. That is when I Lost my Mind. The Rush of Cold Air,the Sound of the Blades, the Visual of the building’s and Light’s,and the Height of us flying. It was UnReal,I guess that is why I remember it so well. Sorry to Babble on you, tear’s role down my cheek as I type. Happy New Year Brother’s.

Tried to uncover gravel-riding making a 20mile trip from home to New Hartford this afternoon, found it much colder under the Mountain - only 600ft of vertical and holds alot of core temperature. Haven't ridden up there in over 20 years.

37miles, 1600' of climbing (no chairlift @ Ski Sundown) drafted between a cordial split group ride for a few miles too.

Just found 2022 New Years resolution: if ever back to a Bike Park, I hereby promise to continue to shut off Strava instead of swelling vertical feet total to fat-guy-forever-hooked-on-steroids levels by including Chair Lifts in climbing Efforts.
1000 miles w/ 350k' of climbs each season. :disgust1:

Is not a resolution BTW... 'Crop' and 'Edit' are my friends.

Stranded in La Grande Oregon because they shut down i84 due to a shoot out. A fucking shoot out. Not ice, accidents, or compact snow. Face meet palm
