hosted a lovely brunch yesterday for my sister in law and her husband. wife and I only engaged in minor, low grade kitchen bickering during the prep phase. I'd call that a win.

already did my first set of core exercises. doing some desk work, then driving the 14 year old to HS and spending 20-25 minutes on the stationary bike at the gym.

then a full day of "get that bread" with hopefully minimal distractions.

Hello
Did yard work on Saturday, which hurt. Then a hike with my little guy on Sunday, which hurt more. No “Workouts” this weekend but I think I didn’t need it. To work in a few, then hopefully back in the afternoon to WFH for the rest.

WHAT UP, JOE Q. RIDEMONKEY! WFH day, preceded by a six mile jog. My legs felt like they ran a 5K race yesterday.

I've got the foster dog with me in the basement (see dog thread). This pup is awesome and I think we're going to keep her. 8 month old German shorthaired pointer/German shepherd mix.

forgot to mention - roller coasters saturday were a very good time. kids love it, i love it. the racoon that was asleep in the roof of the loading pavilion for the one roller coaster loved it.

a pair of them somehow got in, the metal mesh was pulled out in one corner. they woke up after sundown, the ride operators were a little sketched. i get why, but my kids thought it was funny. they had never seen a raccoon in person before.

Here. Spent all day at the track yesterday for Haley. She had a killer day and dropped almost 1sec off her best time in the new kart. Archer, top driver on the team, has been out with her every day since she got the new kart and she decided to "drive like Archer" yesterday. I think that's what really changed the game for her - she finally committed to letting her body turn the kart instead of the steering wheel. It's kind of wild to watch - going full speed into a corner, you can hear the lift and brake tap, see the steering flick, then hear the full throttle as body weight is thrown to the side, but keeping their body stiff, so it lifts the inside wheel. (example) It allows the throttle point to start about 20' earlier, but also to brake later and carry more speed through. It's awesome to watch.

She's now spent a LOT of lap time out with the senior team drivers and it's showing. They don't fuck around if you are in their way. They will push you hard from behind in corners if you are slowing them down. They will dive-bomb you at the end of straights if that's the passing opportunity - even in practice. And they side-pod you out of the way in corners if that's what it takes to get you out of the way to make a pass. She's picking up all of them and it's starting to show through in her driving. Where she used to hesitate in or up to corners if she was coming up to a pinch with a slower driver, she just bombs through now. She won't pinch the cadets, but only the young ones. Team kids? Deal with it. (Which is what was done to her  )

(@jebfour Archer is racing shifter & X30 nationally at 16yo  )

shall have a reasonably busy workday today. from home thanks to one of our fellows covering for me at a remote site. I shall make a point to pop down and both get thai food for me + family and get him some takeout for lunch, assuming I'm not called to pick up a kiddo with a low grade fever, which has been our life for the past ~week

I am now a team lead at work with oh, maybe 0.25 FTE worth of team. That's down from 5 FTEs last year.

Guess it's a good thing I shifted into a different role and that title is largely a relic?

Morning Monkeys.

Fucking Monday. I got sucked into the V Day committee for the city and we meet on Friday to scramble something together. Should be hilarious.

I mean, this kind of deserves moar attention. What a huge ride dude. Nice job. And solo too? Voices in my head would have had me turning back before finishing the climb. Big props, as the kids say.

It was a full day. Only dark moment was the mechanical on the steep burro climb - spoke snap just on the prior small downhill from the Geyser Pass TH, pierced the tubeless tape and then with the mud I just couldn't get the rear DD tyre off the rim to put in a tube. I seriously thought I was going to have to backtrack 10 miles on a flat all the way to La Sal Loop Rd and flag a ride back to Moab. Now that would have been the shittiest ride ever - climb all the way from Moab to Burro and have to turn around. From my GPS track it looks like I was stopped for 52 minutes trying to fix it.

I've descended Burro with snow on it before (2008 mebbe??). But that was some foot out descending the whole way down the steepest part with the snow, then after onto lower Burro to Warner it was clear going the whole way down. They were only shuttling to Hazard and with the visible snow on the peaks I knew it would be an adventure.

Frig, work.

Splurged yesterday on a slab of brisket for some pulled beef tacos. SOOOON.

This morning was depressing. I woke up with a sudden urge to take a leak, which I did. Crawled back into bed and thought it was 5am, given how dark it was outside. Nope, alarm went off as soon as I put my head on the pillow. :(
