Zero issues with it so far. Tomorrow is my last pill on the 6 day course.
I have had near magical healing experiences with Prednisone. Sorry it doesn’t work for you @Westy It’s been a game changer for me from sorting gout attacks to biking injuries. Like a video game health boost. Not sure I’ve ever had another single drug that’s so blatantly effective. Maybe the new hayfever treatments, they are also highly effective for me. Regarding downsides, I have heard it makes some people angry and I was advised by my doctor to only take it in the AM as it can apparently disrupt sleep if taken later.

Morning Monkeys.

Holy shit, payroll issue. I happened to look at my bank before paying some bills and I got less than half a paycheck deposited. I log into our fancy new payroll system and I only got paid for 16 hours of PTO and no regular hours. It seems everyone got the same thing, so HR lady has been on the phone with the payroll folks all morning.
A missing payroll employee is far worse than a missing ceo.

You need to blame @I Are Baboon for those issues.

I needed it to deal with inflammation after hand surgury. Couldn't be more than 10 feet from a bathroom to deal with the explosive bloody diarrhea. Pounding headaches, face swelled up, sleep was more of this half conscious zombie state, waking hours felt like a half asleep zombie state. I was super irritable and confrontational, yelled at a few annoying people at work who normally I would just laugh at.

Shortly after retiring I got a call like that, helped the person out, noted that my ongoing billable rate was $500 an hour, never got another call.
When my buddy quit IT to do music, his company asked if he would be willing to consult afterwards and what would his rate be. He told them $375 thinking they would flinch. He ended up working more than 40 hours, just making WAY more money. He finally quit quit, but he sacked a lot of coin.

JFC. That’s wild. Re: the explosive diarrhoea, I was prescribed Omeprazole alongside prednisone to ward off this sort of thing, but have never needed it. Did they offer you that?

About a year after I left a small sketchy company for grad school I got a call asking how to increase the duration of a high G calibration system they had sold to the USAF. They had maintained my access to all the companies systems as I thought perhaps doing some paid consulting work would a good financial possibility. I asked what acceleration and duration they were looking for. My response was to resend a test report I worked on until 8:00 PM on my last day that characterized what the maximum performance specs were for the system. They had promised the Air Force specs an order of magnitude greater that it was capable of. My post script was an explanation that if anyone wondered why I had left the company, this was a perfect example. They never called again. I kind of expected them to face some serious consequences trying to defraud the US government, but from what I could tell nothing happened. Experience since then tells me there are no consequences and why so many projects go way over budget.

A little while later I did see an all employee email explaining what to do as a result of a lawsuit from General Motors after they tried to defraud them. I got cut off from their email soon after. Good riddance.

My dad spent his last 10 years working 6 months at Cal State Stanislaus and 6 months at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. Because of the exchange rate he made more money working 3/4 time there. University gave them a beach house to live in and metro passes. My mom took free classes while dad taught. They quit the year of the Olympics. The beach volleyball was 500 feet from their beach house. They didn't see Winter for 10 years.

He interviewed when I was a junior in highschool. They agreed when I was out of the house, they would work something out.

No, the surgeon was a meathead. I am also pretty sure he fucked up the surgery. Despite having UCL surgery (base of thumb) I lost mobility in the last joint as well as numbness. After @jonKranked mentioned an anchor that he worked on that was likely used in my surgury, I found what was essentially an installation manual that had a warning about the importance of the accuracy of an incision, failure to do so leading to the exact problems I had.

Ah shit, I need to pay more attention.

Several years ago at work, a senior manager was absolutely screaming and threatening our team (trying to get us to break policy for the sake of schedule). My calmest coworker stood up yelled some obscenities in retaliation and stormed out of the room slamming the door on his way out. I sat there and asked a bunch of stupid questions that were thinly veiled jokes questioning her "leadership". She literally refused to talk to me for 6 weeks afterwards, it was great.

You should always assume, if there is ever any doubt, that I'm just giving you well intentioned shit. :D

There a handful of emails in my inbox today from c-level people from over the weekend and a couple from before 5 am this morning asking when I was gonna answer. My big question for the day is do I tell them I am on vacation for the rest of the year or just not answer?

The unfortunate thing is that the questions are important (in my opinion) and I should answer them, but I cannot fucking stand being asked to work for the company on my time.

If you get executive level compensation, yes, you can and should take calls at 3 am on a Saturday. I am an engineer getting engineer-level comp, I work during working hours.
Fuck um Brother. Do Not Answer. You answered you’re question.

Front Range, dude...
And it came to pass on the eighth day that the Lord did bestow upon me a hammer. And lo, when no craftsmen did answer my call, I perceived that I must needs wield the hammer with mine own hand. And as I beheld the dismantling of mine house, I did smile and lift mine heart in thanksgiving unto the Lord, for His provision was sufficient for me.
The FSM be praised!
