the pedal came off the spindle. I ride a lot and bash them off rox all the time. I guessI could have a pair last if I didn’t consistently ride. In all seriousness though the failure is always the pedal sliding off the spindle. Any other pedal recommendations that are flat like the mallet but not made by CB?
I've had 2 CB pedals come off the spindle like that. Pretty obvious cause and simple fix....loctite (blue) on the nut at the end of the spindle. Also pull the dust cap every once in a while and make sure it's tight.

They get a lot of shit, but I've always liked CB pedals.

I built/trued a dozen wheels without a truing stand.

1. turn bike upside down
2. strategically place a ziptie on frame or work
3. true wheel
4. profit ???

Morning. MIL currently in IC with covid. Wifey nervous. Back to stressful work tomorrow. Hopefully a bike ride will let me relax a bit later today.
That's how I've rolled for the past 15 years, but its so much easier and precise with a truing stand.

:stupid:

Shoddy maintenance practices aren't CB's problem. Since you're riding so "consistently", one might expect you would also be "consistently" looking after your equipment.

One would think 3 month old pedals wouldnt require full maintenance activity and be considered shoddy maintenance.:agree:

I used to run crank bros clipless pedals because I could usually find a pair for about the cost of a new set of cleats, and a set of pedals lasted about as long as a set of cleats even with regular lubrication and rebuilding. Eventually I got tired of the pedal strike eject feature.

Yes you did. Thank You
Just wondering: did you not feel them getting excessive side-to-side play before they fully came off?
I had that once or twice happen to me, so could fix it before it became a problem. The main reason I use CB pedals is that for a pedal with this much float you cannot pull out of them under hard sprinting. Always had knee pain with SPD-like pedals.

I used them once. I had a pedal strike eject one on a rocky trail. That was too many times for me; same as Time pedals.

fair enough. I look for set and forget pedals frankly... maybe look at them once a year or so.

In seriousness, that ought to be good enough. I rode 2700 miles last year, without a single pedal failure. Once a year, the bikes all get a tear down. Proper torque and loctite should be all you need. Replace the lock nuts every time you take off the pedal. Nylon insert lock nuts are not supposed to be reused and they cost maybe 25 cents. Where I work, reusing a lock nut would get you unpaid time off.

Tending to an Easter dinner with the girlfriend's mother today. The weather here is glorious.

Would have been perfect for a good ride. But all is not lost, currently sitting outside on the porch in tshirt, shorts and enjoying some cold beer.

Went for a walk down the street. The water looks soothing today. Many tourists trying to get to the water today...

For geography geeks, this is looking at Cooks Bay, which leads to the much bigger Lake Simcoe.

I grew up with SPDs, tried CB for a bit, but I bent a set of Mallets and I didn’t really like the excessive float. To vague all round. Went back to Spuds. Loved the old red DX ones but these days I run 454s and I consider them a wear part. The plastic cage protects my motor (axle) from the full intensity of occasional 30kph pedal strikes.
