And my hip/back spasms started up today. I tried doing a bit of exercise Saturday to ease back into a routine after two weeks of travel, and that seems to have triggered it. So, while it is in the early phase of the spasm, I’m expecting weeks of pain and mobility issues, as is SOP.
crushed disc checking in... At least you were exercising and your trigger wasn't sneezing.

You probably already do this, but I sleep with a hot pad when my back flares up.

Too I've found de-fattening myself seems to help but that's a long term aspiration.

My friends with wonky backs say good things about Pilates, but I don't pay for "exercise" classes so that's a nonstarter for me.

Thanks.

I've got an MRI of the lumbar region coming up, but I think the TFL and something in the glute/piriformis is spasming and related to my spinal cord injury which causes hyper reflexive reactions to pain. This spreads to the low back as an added bonus.

I'm assuming the doc will give me a "close but not quite" diagnosis. When my last spasm started in April I tried to get in with a doc but had to wait until late June for my initial visit, and I'm just now getting the MRI after waiting on insurance preauthorization.

…one of the things I did that probably triggered this was a short session on the gym bike. Cycling movements (other than recumbent) seems to be a recurring theme, so I might break down and finally sell my remaining bike and rack. I haven’t ridden since Covid lockdowns were in place. I need to admit where I am and not continue to enshrine my failed dreams in my hall closet.
Strong dislike.

Hope you feel better quickly, my friend.

G'day monkeys.
Monday morning here, I had such a solid sleep last night!
But between going to bed at 9pm, and waking at 6am, there was 49mm (2 inches) of rain overnight.... Spring is always the crappiest weather around here.... Glad I've got the day off, the office will be super busy with all the flooding going on.

Well that did not go according to plan. Started having gut issues about 15 miles into what I was hoping would be an 80-mile ride. Granted, I always knew completing the whole thing would be an audacious goal, but I thought I could get reasonably far. I managed to push through to mile 25-ish before deciding that my belly wasn’t gonna get any better, and still had 6 miles of trail 6 miles of dirt road and 6 miles of pavement to get back to my truck.

Can't remember exactly what dumb ride you're doing @Full Trucker , but have a good one.
Meh, just the Crest… except all of it.

What happened to your face?
I smashed it into the ground a few weeks ago, see avatar.

@mandown would soaking in a hot bath tub help ? If so maybe time for a hot tub. When I was layed up in a hotel trying to pass a kidney stone I wound up sleeping in the tub.
I wish. The times I’ve tried it haven’t gone well. The act of getting in/out of the tub and the posture sitting in the tub seems to offset any benefits, and sometimes make things worse.

I’m holding a gabapentin prescription and hoping that the issue is nerve related so the drugs will quiet things down. If not then who knows what is next. A positive of this pain is I’ll be dealing with a fresh spasm at the time of my MRI so that could reveal the culprit. My spine doc seems to think he has some injections that could sort me out depending on what he sees on the MRI.

Oh man that sucks. I’ve become a connoisseur of cheap hotel bath tubs while thru hiking. Some of the sketchier ones have been “renovated” but still have the original ceramic over metal tubs which hold heat way better than modern tubs.

Good luck with the MRI, hope they find the cause.
