Another day another dollar, I guess. But first, coffee.

Ride night, should be great. Still warm out...

Some of the stuff I'm reading online is pretty disheartening. The political thing I get, it is what it is. But I'm reading about people saying "all americans are dumb as fuck", others canceling vacation etc etc etc etc. Maybe they are just jumping on the hate bandwagon, but the USA and its people are still great! I don't know, maybe I just have more of a soft spot for the USA than most others. Or maybe I'm the idiot?

The next few days are going to be annoying as fuck from the Trumper clients that are under my coverage. And the rest of my family giving me the 'I told you so' about how much people love him.

It sort of feels like we're out on a liberal bastion in CO and a portion of me just wants to say 'fuck it' and go back to CA, so that when/if a decisive break in the country happens, we're at least not stuck in West Berlin...

8" of snow overnight, so winter is here.

It's pretty simple really. it's because he increased his share of the popular vote. despite what people know about him, more people chose fascism. it's really disheartening. I don't hate all Americans as a result, but yeah, not really interested in travelling there at the moment, and not really interested in "buying american" anymore either. why would I care? The difference between the US and China is shrinking. It used to be pretty clear : human rights vs. no human rights. but now? not so much (see Roe v Wade and immigration policy). And at least China is taking real action on climate change. I'll definitely be seeking out European products more now as a result...

I'm just saying we shouldn't abandon or dismiss our brothers that live down there. We should still care about them.

I find the red vs blue thing so confusing, as an outsider. I've driven up and down the east coast and besides the random flag or bumper sticker, its just not something that you see or that people on the streets seem to really care about; not compared to how its portrayed on the news or any social media.

I'm more worried about Musk being appointed Internet Security Czar and Russia given a back door to everyone's sensitive information.
Why are you worried about the back door, when the front door is either wide open or just a flimsy screen door?

while I agree we shouldn't abandon our family and friends, I can still be sad a disappointed. Re the Donkey vs Elephant thing... I have a few thoughts:
a) you're probably white... I never thought about casual racism and unconscious bias until I went to visit family in Arizona. My wife is latina, from Chile. One of my sons has pretty latin features. I was paranoid about how he would be treated at the border and by LEO out there. He wanted to bring his Chile t-shirt on the trip, and I thought that might not be a great idea. We were there on vacation, for a short period. Can you imagine having to live with that thought process every waking hour of every day?! and wanting to/having to hide your identity?! that's got to suck.

b) how it affects you personally is one thing. how it affects the world is another. Example 1: I work on climate change. He is an avowed climate dernier. His Project 2025 people have published a pretty scary road map for how to roll back and undo climate action. This has the potential undo years of painstakingly gained progress. Not just in the US, but around the world. Example 2: he is an avowed autocrat and isolationist. By electing him, US voters have essentially given the green light to autocrats and isolationists around the world. Which will beget further erosion of respect for human rights (just watch what will happen when that cancer spreads up here... Poilièvre is Trump redux). That doesn't just matter to "others", it matters to me too because erosion of human rights leads to conflict, which leads to war. See what happened in Europe in the 20s and 30s with the rise of fascism (yes, I know it really started 1850s-60s, but the point still stands).

I'd really rather my kids didn't grow up with the threat of, or actual world wars being fought. And in a climate that doesn't sustain life on the planet. Some might say I'm being overly dramatic, it's just one election. But every step in that direction is a mistake in my book.

So yeah, I'm gonna vote with whatever means I have at my disposal. Which is pretty much just economic at this point.
