I will say my Camp Chef is amazing. Great temp range, it's wide so full ribs fit and has done a verity of crap very well so far.

Propane 24"
interesting. I've considered propane in the past, because having propane smoked ribs is better than not having BBQ ribs at all, and being able to just flip the switch, throw some chips in there, then do the thing is really appealing.

I was going to go for a Weber Smokey mountain vertical water smoker, but those are super expensive and never go on sale, and the dilemma of building and maintaining a fire for 12 hours just fucking blows.

My Dad bought me a Traeger. I've had some issues getting settings right, because I'm not a bbq specialist, but their customer support is incredible. Works pretty damn well though.
I've heard those are the most difficult (side firebox). The vertical waters are more forgiving for joeys like me but still give great results...

The issue we've had the biggest issue with is not having enough pellets (oops) and the tstat not always working right. Turns out having it in the sun is not the best placement.

I have not used it for anything above 225 yet, but it gets to at least 325 so it does more than just smoke meat.

With the Webber iGrill, it is now almost too easy. I set a temp range, put in pellets, and replenish every 40 min or so for about 3-4 trays, then just let it go until done. Smoking for 1/3 to 1/2 total time seems best. I have 4 different flavors of pellets depending on what I am smoking.

Hello all. Had a busy weekend. Most of Saturday was spent at the Georgia games, where my son threw a PR and took first place in the 15-16 YO Discus. Iron Maiden later that evening and cooking all day on sunday. Now I am bored at work and thinking about my beach trip next week.

I bought the iGrill 2 with 3 meat probes and an ambient temperature probe. It was designed for a Webber grill, so it is a 2 piece system with the battery pack separate.

I made a bracket to hold the monitor and mounted it to the optional shelf. The pack is velcro'ed to the underside of said shelf.

It's Bluetooth so range is limited, but I can monitor from the living room, so that works.

Lots of meat presets, timer, and self settings. Other than sometimes not reconnecting once back in range, it's pretty awesome. On Android I sometimes have to restart the app to connect, but it seems to recall what we were doing before, so it will resume.

does it actually control anything or is it just a fancy wireless meat thermometer?

Fancy wireless meat thermometer. I think I spent $70 including the Camp Chef shelf and I don't have to open the smoker door or even put my beer down except to swap pellets and maybe tweak the temp dial a hair.

This was a HUGE upgrade from my $80 smoker that didn't go above 220 and my "instant read thermometer" that took about 30 seconds to register.

Yeah, if your door temp is consistent and you are only cooking one thing, it doesn't make sense. I don't use the probe for ribs, but brisket and prime rib worked very well and the ambient temp is easier to Reed than my door gauge. Plus I am lazy.

i just have a weber propane grill. not much benefit for me tbh. unless ghetto smoking a pork shoulder or something, but for that i'd probably put it on the rotisserie

Just peruse Redfin in Detroit.

Lots of $500 burned out homes.
In Detroit it’s just sport.
Growing up there I always thought Devils Night, the night before Halloween when arson is turned to 11, was a national thing.
Then I moved away and learned otherwise.
That was a letdown.

Today was the first day of Camp Dad for my boys. I am now at the hospital with one of them.

He fell off a play structure at the playground and hurt his arm. Sounds like he sprained his elbow. I hope that's it. Kinda throws my plans to bike, paddle and go to the aerial park out the window...

We had Devils night in Buffalo also. I used to stay in Detroit a lot in the 90's. It was Devils Night every night.

May have found a new place. Its out in the woods. Cheap. Trails and water nearby. My own land to garden and care for. Solar system and woodstove. Well water.
