Still have my sole survivor, so that's nice. Stayed late at work yesterday, turns out the best time to get shit done in the OR is late in the day because nobody has scheduled surgery. If I could sleep in I would have, but here we are.

Rode my new bike to work today. Still needs small adjustments. Ordered new chain and a bell. In Denmark people obey bells but get angry if you talk to them so a bell it is. It's legally required too. I need new tires too but not sure what to get yet. I have recommended Schwalbe marathon plus but they are heavy but indestructible but also checking out if I can go tubeless. No matter what its turning into a heavy beast of a bike.

Low double digits. Supposed to actually get some snow tomorrow.

Seeing videos of people complaining that a few insurance carriers had pulled out of CA in the last few years. . . Yep. The one corporate industry that does believe in climate change. . . Insurance.
Looking forward to having my premiums because of this. . .

I wish this would make people wake up and take all of this more serious.

That goddamn wind is ripping out there and it's been doing so for four days now...cold as balls too.

$2.71 for gas this morning. That seems low. I filled my tank for the wife so she can take my car to Vermont for a four day weekend. I'm staying home with the dogs.

I am getting a new work laptop this morning. I just got one two years ago. I am impressed with how quick they replace them here.

 It's fucking cold. The girls are back in school. Haley is confirmed for Challenge of the Americas in Tucson later this month. It will be her first major, national race.

Found out yesterday that one of our friends' house is 99% likely to have burned down in Palisades. It sucks worse for her, because she lost everything in the Malibu fires a couple of years ago too. I have a couple friends whose parents (and client) who have been evacuated from the Eaton fire. We have other friends that we haven't heard from at all, so we're assuming that their houses have burned down too.

Hi ppls

not working today. Taking new VW van in for snow tires, and orthodontist this afternoon to see if my teeth need a little realignment or not (or if my regular dentist is just trying to upsell as they do)

I had a sales guy call me last year and explained to me about the services the company provided. I responded "I know, I used to work there, I worked with you on multiple products. Do you remember who I am or are you just going through your contact list?"

The resulting awkward silence was delicious.

Most of the houses in So Cal are stucco outside and tile or asphalt roofs. but they all have one weak spot. Open soffit vents to the attic. In those winds embers get blown in and the house burns from the inside. IF you plan and have time. Use metal duct tape to seal the soffits before you evacuate. it may save the house.

My Nephew's house is still standing he got lucky. All the homes that me and my relatives lived in are gone.

Espresso and off to work I go

I have a steer tube mounted bell. like this one (though not that one specifically). I like them because it keeps the handlebar clutter free. which is one of the points of single speed bikes. I also felt very smug when cops stopped me once and were about to admonish me (or give me a fine, not sure) for not having a bell. then I wrang it. and they were impressed. (we really need a "smug" emoji... that would be cool)

working from home today. ride night tonight, and it is very cold out. heated socks are charged, as are the heated gloves.

Morning Monkeys.

WFH, not terrible weather and walkies happened, so that's a good start. So far only one day with frozen windshield, it's usually much colder than this by now.

Last night's Spaghetti Wednesday at the Elks was sort of a success. Tons of people showed up and I think that was the most folks they have had so far. The spaghetti was terrible, as was the salad and bread, but I went and I paid and I tipped. My guess is I am the minority in thinking it was awful, but I know how to make spaghetti that isn't shit.

The biggest issue was the noodles. They must have been breaking them up or something because they were too short to twist onto the fork. I've never had an issue like that. How the fuck are you supposed to eat noodles you can't spin on a fork?

We need soffit venting here to prevent ice dams.
