Ahhhhhhhahhahahahaha.

You weren't planning on riding in the High Country, were you? :D
We took The High Country off the table months ago since we were going to be there fairly early in ‘the season’ due to wife’s work conference. I’ve done the High Country a lot in past years so no real biggy.

It will be totally fine in 3 weeks, I wouldn't worry.

Or not. Who the fuck knows any more?

Where you headed?
Don’t have a solid plan yet. I’m actually riding with my buddy and his fiancé in their Sprinter from home in Asheville,N.C. to Bentonville, AR. Ride there for two days then on to COS to pick up wife. Probably will do some front range trails there then over to Gunnison and maybe some lower Crested Butte stuff...if that’s all shit, who knows, maybe to Taos, Santa Fe?? It’s kind of open

Humid day with 100% humidity but cold and I got myself on the bike for a 60km spin. Need to ride to get my ass up Mt Ventoux twice next month.

This. I turned all work email completely off on my phone and ignored any calls coming in during my week off. Whatever happened last week, I don't care, it isn't my problem. And its getting pretty annoying coming back to my office every time that I take time off to a mess. At least have the decency to plug my mouse back in and toss out the trash...

Anyways.... Holy fuck was the last day and a bit of the trip a total crapshoot. We finished on Sunday with a great mellow paced ride and then...
  • Raystown area got hit with a massive rain/wind storm on Sunday afternoon. Myself and the other guy who was camping with me were over on the 7 Points side when it hit. Monsoon rain... But then when went back to our site later, we discovered that that area was hammered much harder. Buddies tent collapsed, our chairs were gone, one of the beer empty bags fucking exploded. The rain was falling so hard that it kicked up dirt onto the picnic bench. Our site got destroyed...
  • Later that same night after we cleaned up and went to bed. Someone comes walking down into our area (keep in mind DirtFest is over and 99% of people are gone...) around 11pm-12am with no lights and is clearly drunk as hell or high. We have no clue where he came from or what he was up to, but after telling him to basically get the hell out of here he just said "oh so that's how it is..." and disappears into the night... wtf? If you know the area, our campsite was at the very end of the tip of the Susquehannock camp area. Its a long walk from anywhere..
  • About an hour after creeper leaves, I'm laying there awake and can't sleep. A big ass tree then falls down over the site up from us. It sounded like it hit close to our cars. After the previous events that night, buddy and I just said whatever and didn't even bother going to make sure that the tree didn't hit the cars.
  • On the way back home yesterday on one of the steep mountain roads in PA, we were coming down one and found a gravel hauler truck had flipped over and slid down the road, coming to a rest against the guardrail. The trucks coming up the hill were LUCKY they didn't get steamrolled off the hill. Luckily it had just happened as we pulled up, so were able to roll by slowly before the traffic became a clusterfuck. The engine bay was starting to smoke when we went past it...

Found this guy crawling up the bank on our campsite yesterday morning.

Until next time...
