02 Monster maintenance

My 02 Monster seems to have some free play in it. The bushings and seals were just replaced and after riding for, maybe, 20 hours, it feels like the headset is loose. It's not the headset, though, it's the lowers moving as if the bushings were totally worn out.

They are set up with stock springs and the additional topout springs to shorten travel. The preload spacers are 10mm longer than stock but the adjusters are backed all the way out. I have 10w Bel-Ray fork oil in 'em, and like I said, new busings and seals.

I would just send them to Marz for a factory rebuild, but I don't want to be without my fork for a several weeks...

Anybody got any advice? Thanks!

Did you by chance get fox bushings?

Sorry I don't know anything about monsters. If you apply the front brake and rock the bike forward and backward can you actually feel that the play is coming from the area where the stanchion meets the lower, if so it's likely a bushing problem, if not then it could be something loose in the cartridge. I wouldn't ride it until I knew exactly what's wrong out of fear of making something worse.

Thanks guys. I took it apart and put it back together and it's fine. I don't know what was of place, but the bushings are tight and the oil is fresh! :) I went ahead and took the extra top out springs out and returned it to full (175mm) travel while I was in there, just to be different...

Korn, the bushings were packaged on a Marzocchi plastic card.

DFox, you're evil and I don't want to sell it yet. :) It's the best DC fork I've ever sampled.

eh, I knew you couldn't have gotten fox bushings, they don't even sell them and they wouldn't fit in your fork if they did. Myself and everyone I've met has had chronic bushing play in their fox vanillas, it was supposed to be a joke but I forgot to use the smiley.
