Interesting to be sure...Especially seeing as they used to claim that their old BoXXers weighed in the neighborhood of 6.4 lbs (Race) to 6.7 lbs (Team & WC)...Seems like a big weight gain for just one more inch of travel (and c'mon - how much can that little plastic tube full of speed holes weigh :) ?)...But p'raps they added some beef to the new crowns, although the lowers and stanchions look about the same to me...

Since we're talking DC weights, it's still hard to believe the 40 mm Fox fork weighs anywhere close to 7 lbs with all the adjustments and it's overall size...I would love for one of these mtb rags to take all the DC forks (say, the Fox 40, Fox 36, Shiver, 888, Monster, Sup T, BoXXer Team, Dorado, Risse Champ 9, Slider Plus, Kingpin, the $64,000 Foes fork, Avy, and maybe a 66 for the hell of it) and slap'em ,uncut, on a calibrated digital scale and publish the weights...

The 2003 Team weighed 7.05lbs (3201g) as per weightweenies.starbike.com

Wow, that seems like a pretty big deviation (7.05 vs. 6.12 lbs)...I know one's an '03 and the other is an 05', but it would seem like the '05 would be heavier (per Rockshox themselves)...I would think the internals between the Team and WC aren't that much different in terms of weight, even though the '05 has the aforementioned porous plastic sleeve in it...

The perforated palstic tube (Motion Control) isn't inside production boxxers. They are still hc3. The blackbox fork has motion control and dual air. It weighs ~5.5 pounds (as per Boobar) Of course all that is moot unless you are like top 50 in the world...

... don't care how light they are, Boxxers still feel like crap, blow seals and ride more poorly than other forks out there. I'll take that heavy 888 any day.

Regardless of weight difference, the only changes RS didn't make to the Boxxer this year are seal technology and damping circuit design. Hate to be the cement shoes here but those are the reasons nobody on our team runs a Boxxer in the first place. I'd way rather have a White Brothers fork that actually works and has decent seals on my bike and deal with the extra three ounces than have to get my fork serviced by RS at every national (or a Zoke and be problem free all season with only one or two oil changes). I know there are plenty of you who don't feel like you need to service your Boxxer every three weeks, but let me tell you that from a shop employee perspective, those who think the anti-Boxxer sentiment is a farce or conspiracy are riding on a fork full of sludge.

To me comment like that seems sort of unprofessional coming from a place that sells boxxers...sounds like you mean to say that Boxxers suck. So why do yall still sell them??

I used to also believe that the boxxer sucked too (relying on past history and infernet experts), but then I rode one, and havent regretted it one bit. Ive not had one seal issue, Im a heavy guy and the forks held up just fine. I also havent had to send it back to the service center multiple times for warranty, unlike the Zokes ive owned.

Im looking forward to the 05 forks if i can afford one....... otherwise ill be just fine with my 03.

what do you guys think about 2003 boxxers? cambria has a few on closeout.

if i remember correctly, you have to drill some port in the cartridge alittle bigger right? but once that mod is done...is it butter?
2 reasons I switched to 888 from my '03 Boxxer to the 888.
1. It spiked randomly due to that "drill it like a cheerleader" (quoting Jeremy R) crap.
2. I bent the lowers...without wrecking or putting a single tiny scratch on it...and they refused to warranty it. They're response was "well you wanted a light fork" ...now do some searches and find the threads about how many lowers people bent which was more than I had realized.
3. Changing oil frequently just plain sucks!
4. After the first super plush, zero complaint ride on my 888....I was sold. No arm pump...no thought involved.

As for the comments about James at Go-Ride bashing Boxxers...it depends on your viewpoint. Just because a shop sells a particular product doesn't make it their first choice in equipment. Any shop will tell you pluses and minuses of all the forks. James didn't slam it...just reiterated issues many people on here will confirm to you in various other threads. Every DH fork will some some sort of downside...whether it be weight, damping, servicibility, performance, longevity, etc. The boxxer seems to get the most complaints....and at the same time...the most loyal following next to Marzocchi???

I don't know man, that is just one guys honest opinion. I don't see anything wrong with that at all. Most consumers can make up their own mind. For example, if I wanted a Boxxer, and Go-ride had the best deal going on them,
I would buy one. And if James told me he thought they blew goats, I would still buy one. People have varying opinions all day long on forks as evident by this board.
As far as Boxxers getting heavier, hopefully they got heavier in the right place, the lowers.
When our team ran them, we did not blow a seal all year like others have, but we went through a few lowers, and looks like they addressed that issue for 05. I'll still take the 888 of course, but that 05 World cup at least looks improved.

We sell them because there are people that want them, and we try to keep the top stuff for DH and FR available. That doesn't mean that we're going to make them our top recommendation, though. I think if you're trying to build the absolute lightest DH race bike out there, or want a long-travel trail bike with a DC fork, the Boxxer could very well fit the bill. However, the fork does require a lot more maintanance than most of it's competitors and the damping system is outdated. It's all a matter of priorities. The only other fork comparable to the Boxxer (pre '05) in weight is the Sherman Slider, and other than it's inception year, the Slider is SPV only and some people aren't into SPV in their forks.

I guess the point here is that everybody decides what is most important to them when assembling or upgrading a bike, because you can't really have the best of price, weight, performance, durability, aesthetics, and online reputation all in the same fork. I haven't figured out which fork has the best of all of those, anyway (although the 888 is close ;) kidding, kidding on the square).

Yeah, James should have just lied to us. Then I'd be able to sleep soundly at night.
