I've read a lot about how Hayes HFX 9's are crap, and that HFX Mag's are the way to go. However, most of the 9's that were tested were '04 and older. I've "heard" that Hayes worked out previous problems (?). I just ordered a set of '05 9's from the LBS, but I am thinking that paying an extra $100 and getting the Mag's. What do you think? Thanks for your help.

As far as i know, the guts are the same. The only difference is the mags use a magnesium housing that is lighter. There should really not be any performance difference to my knowlege, ill check in my shop tomorrow though.

the difference is in the levers
the mags have a stiffer body lever, and better internals
where as the 9s have more plastic in the master cylinder assembly
i cant remeber off hand what the exact differences were

however the there is definately a difference in performance of the 2, definately go with the mags if you can afford it

I went from 9's to Mag's and haven't looked back. After the little plastic bleeder came off the 9's on two different occasions, I was done with 'em. Really weak design. Nuff said....
