It's obviously pretty tough, Marzocchi continues to insist that thier monsterous crown on the 888 is necessary for proper tire clearance, while go-ride and risse insist that the flat crowns are adequate for any normal sized tire. Who would have though that somebody would try and squeeze a 3.0 nokian on an XC fork?
I got one of the 05 Nixon Elites about 2 months ago. I put it on my bike, with 2.3" tires, and had 6mm MORE arch clearance than they recommended in the manual (they recommended 12mm, I had 18mm). It took me 2 minutes of "parking lot" testing before noticing it rub on my crown. I sent it back and got another one, same problem. I did a bunch of measurements for Manitou, took pictures of my tire bottomed on my crown, etc. Then sent it back and got a Flick Plus.
Fast forward 2 months... Manitou recalls a bunch of forks. I think I had a part to play in this whole recal thing. Turns out that they had some problems with their engineering drawings. Whoops.
Hey, Manitou, if anyone is paying attention, and you need someone to do some testing of your products that come off the production line, send me a PM, because obviously, there is nobody currently employed with Manitou thats doing this...
you know im sensing the problem is that with the reverse arch it might be a bit harder to get a good reading on real tire clearance, same issue we discussed earlier in the "what is the lowest 8" fork" thead, anyone follow my logic?
kornphlake, i kinda disagree with your argument there, i think the 888 height issue is of a different nature, its a call by marzocchi, they think that the height isnt a problem and therefore the 888 is so tall.
manitou however does think that tire rub is a problem, they just hadnt realized it existed.

Wasn't marzocchi's claim about the height issue that it was necessary to have the tall crown to allow for enough clearance when running large tires. Maybe I've missed the latest developments in this ongoing drama?
You're right though, it really is a different issue, too tall makes a fork undesirable, too low makes a fork dangerous.
I'm pretty sure it's not all the stance forks, it says they're only recalling the Chase 1 (last time I checked anyway), but all the Chase's have stance forks just not the same model. If i'm wrong please correct me, I have a Chase3 and I wouldn't mind NOT getting hurt!
