05 Ultimate setup for BURLY stuff

Well I bought and sold and bought and sold a bunch of stuff this year to try and find my perfect bike but I'm still looking for that ultimate ride! What would be a good frame for Whistler(upper section)style terrain? I've had a Norco A-line, Giant DH comp, and now a Transition Dirtbag. Out of the three this summer I was impressed mostly with the Transition DB but I'm looking to get some more travel for 2005.

I've got the a good component group except I need reccomendations on a superb wheelset as well as a fork.

I was lucky enough to have a 03 Super T, then a Dorado DH(not works), then a manitou sherman Slider, and now I'm back to the 04 Super T. My friend has an 04 shiver.

I would like something that has 8 inches front and back I believe, something that doesn't have linkage problems, rides great for both good singletrack DH as well as shore terrain/whistler/drops and stunts...

My problem: I seem to blow through the travel too easily, even with spring adjustments and coming down "In Deep", "No Joke", Schleyer or any of the other double black diamonds is what I'm trying to accomplish however I don't feel 100% confident on any of the stuff that I've had.

Is there a frame and Fork out there for '05 that is good for the burliest of the burly? Here' comes the delema, I'm 230lbs with gear, seems like all the forks I've had are good for riders up to 200lbs...even with spring rate changes.

What I'm considering:
Forks:
Monster T, Shiver, or maybe the Dh Fox if it's not $$$$$$$
But I'm at a loss for picking a good frame...

So, if you have lots of experience with the PNW terrain and can reccomend the burliest fork and frame, I'm all ears...oh, and if you could maybe drop a brief splurt on why it is you like the particular items...

If somebody made a bike called "The Mother Of All Huckers", I would suggest that as a possibility. It would have to be awfully burley. Maybe something with a rear suspension system like the Turner DHR or Foes Fly.

I'm sure something new will jump out at you after Interbike. Good luck.

Good review Toshi, that bike looks like a really nice ride!
I was trying to keep things light with my latest build but after getting back from Whistler on Thursday and riding the new trails up top I'm rather dissapointed with my setup. It's great for everything except the burly stuff like upper whislter and shore. Took it out on the peeler trail yesterday, forgot my multi tool so my seat was jacked way up for stand working and didn't even get to ride most of the trail. However, it was real similar to upper whistler in parts only with more stunts. I think I'll hold off on going back there until I can score a frame a fork that is strong enough for me to drop that type of stuff with confidence...

Yeah I just wish I could go and be there in person but... Hopefully the sites and mags will do a good review of the new '05 line. However I like to hear feedback from riders riding the gear rather than influenced sources.

Ill say the DHR has been burly enough for my 240lb ass. It rides whistler sick (oh no, i FR'ed a Race bike) The suspension in the rear is nearly bottomless, and the frame has proved to be very strong. My last bike didnt do so well. In the year i had it the swingarm cracked, and so did the front Tri. I can say i did ride it extremly hard and had some issues with proper shock setup. Being a cool small canadain company that was pretty new they really took care of me...... but i learned that just extra metal doesnt always mean strong. The fly's are also known to be great FR bikes. Real similar suspension as the DHR, but different geometry.

PM me if your interested in the DHR.... Im local and could hook up to show you (SST maybe?). Plus after IB mine might be on the auction block once i see the New highline.......

Too bad about your friend Damon, sorry to hear that.
Yeah, MC 9.5's are tough, none have ever broken.
This bike looks tough too http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98690

Thanks for the reply's guys! I'm probably going to keep pushing my current setup until spring as it's a biotch to sell mtn. bike parts this time of year. I can't wait for the 05 lineup to come out! I think I might be getting a shiver but then again the monsters are so plush. What's the major difference between the two? I mean, once moto-x went inverted on forks they never looked back, why doesn't the same tech. apply to mtn. bike's?

It probably has to do with the arch brace. Motocross bikes never used them. If you took it off a standard fork it wouldn't be as stiff as an inverted.

Suzuki did return to a standard fork for a couple years before going back to an inverted on their RM's.

What about the demo 9 frame? I see alot of those up at Whistler, they look killer but wow are they pricey...

Yeah I considered the Foes Fly, just don't see too many of them around?
I heard Demo 9's will be $3,300 for the Taiwan frame.
A Fly with all the bells and whistles (curnutt shock, floater) is real expensive too

05 D9's are way overpriced (in my opinion). Maybe look for a used 04? There are a few ones out there.

I saw plenty of fly's at whistler this weekend. Plus being a rare thing can be cool. But if you want somethign everyone else has,get...bighit....or....kona stinky....or....banshee scream.....

Insane isnt it? I know people have tried to justify it and say theyre doing so much for freeride.... but c'mon. Its made in TW to be cheaper. I hope they flop this year because of the price....

I had a Scream and an '03 Monster. If you want burly, you would be hard pressed to find something burlier. I have tried them with a Fox, Avy, and a 5th. If you have the money get a frame without the shock and get an Avy. If not, get the 5th over the Fox (it was an old style RC), cause of the single pivot nature, it just pedals better.

But the new Fox may work good also...

I just saw a post of a guy selling a brand new demo 9 '04 for $3g, I'm ready to jump on that but waiting to hear back. Yeah the '05's are ridiculously priced!!! What did they change that makes them $5500? Has this bike had any issues with linkage problems? I'm still waiting to see the new design of the Giant's, I loved mine but it had too many issues with the linkage.

sorry for my abrupt comment...the fly just seem to fit your riding style and to fit right in with your recent bike history. it seemed you liked comparably shorter travel bikes with a little higher bb. the fly, adjustable between 6-7.5-8 inchs(correct me if im wrong), is a sweet little freeride/dh rig with alittle shorter wheel base with alittle steaper angles and alittle higher bb then most dh rigs.

i suggest you skip the currnut and romic all together and sell it new, put that cash to a new avy and in the back and botta-bing botto-boom. i have had excellent luck with my romic, however they dont seem to have that great of a track record, and everyone has heard how great avy's perform.
