so the have the regular model (FC-m770) and a "K" model (FC-M771K). the K model is supposedly the one for "chainguards and chain cases" so Im assuming I need this one for it to work with the lg1. problem is I cant find it through any distributer right now in 165mm. will I be alright with the regular m770?

Chain Case is euro spec, and no you don't need that to run a guide.

You want the 770. The 771 large ring is drilled to accept a chainguard - some countries require that all cranks have a chainguard.

I have 165mm XT 770 setup with an Evil DRS on a specialized enduro sx.
    Works fine.
