It’s not actually all that surprising how long some old components last. Given their basic but sensible design, materials used and the (relatively) easy life many have had.
I still occasionally service a couple of customers fully running rod brake and unobtainable rim vintage bikes from as long ago as the 1940s. Possibly earlier. Probably have pics somewhere on cloud/phone but fuck knows how long I’d need to search for them

I find it mind blowing what people were able to fabricate before 1910. People out there making complicated assemblies and items with basically hammers and fire. I mean it was only a few years later that folks were still riding around on horses stabbing each other with swords.

Yeah. They ride around here on Surrons chopping each other up with imported machetes now. That’s progress for ya.
