Hello I am Hank Matheson. I am excited to share with you that I along with my good friend Jon Heim have been granted a patent on a new rear suspension system.

Have fun out there.

Sincerely,

Hank Matheson

Two-Dimensional Suspension Patent Awarded

Patent #9,908,583

April 5th, 2018 Grass Valley, CA

A new Two-Dimensional Bicycle Rear Suspension System has been granted U.S. Patent #9,908,583. In development by Hank Matheson and Jon Heim since 2010, this suspension system combines independent vertical and rearward axle paths. The axle path changes depending on the direction of the hit to the rear wheel. This allows the axle path to conform to the force vector traveling through the axle.

Hank Matheson mentioned “I am happy to have been granted this patent and to have been able to work with Jon. I am also excited to ride the thing.”

Jon Heim said, "When Hank showed me the CandyMantm prototype I thought he should apply for a patent. I was impressed with how simple and compact it was for 2-D suspension. We came up with additional configurations like the MissingLinktm, a 2-D link that slides instead of pivots and is almost hidden. It's nice to get validation from the US Patent Office."

Floating down the whiskey river...
Looks heavy and only suitable for frame for which it was designed. Why one coil, one air, why not both of the same? Why the coil higher where the weight is higher? Whats the cost? Do we have to buy 2 rear shocks now? I'm confused on the part that it actually is.

Looks interesting, but this is pretty similar to the original Cannondale Gemini, isn't it?

Wow, it's cool in a way (more so at the time I guess), but I am reminded of how far we have come.

Hey-Zeus that is hideous. :o:disgust1:
Kinda looks like looking through a glory-hole to see an Orange try to mount a DHR. It is just not right.
Also, the people on this board are of the more technically / mechanically literate end of the normal rider; some of us have issues getting a single shock setup correctly due to their design limitations ( see Udi's posts and Steves video ) Now you want to add a second shock into that scene? I think I would have more fun mounting cush-cores with dh tires on I19's that trying to setup two independent shocks.

However, kudos for thinking outside of the box, and actually building something. You did keep the box in sight tho right?

As 2D is by definition a surface.
If we orient this in 3D space...
May I propose the following model names.

I remember there was some hype around 8 years ago about a bike that has an axle "area" instead of a typical curve. People usually mentioned the topic around that silly idea of 2 shock frame.

Didn't the 2009 Corsair Crown use exactly the same solution? IIRC people absolutely hated it and ran just a single shock setup with a dummy instead of the air shock. Not saying that that solution sucks, it just introduces a lot more variables to the bike setup, and You usually end up with some marginal performance gains (if any).

BCD (Alex Morgan) also made a carbon one many years before all these prior art examples already posted.

This is the bike that people were hyping up but the geo on it was stupid and it didn't change for years. Unfortunately.

I for one believe the solution must always be as complicated as possible.
