hey,
i am thinking about getting a 2004 kona stinky(orange and black one) and was wondering if anyone owns one that could tell me how good the bike actually is. It seems to be pretty equipped, but i need some advice/opinions/feelings on this bike before i buy. Lastly, how would the stock rear fox vanilla r compare to its big brother(fox vanilla rc)???? Would the vanilla r have the same plushness as the vanilla rc? All the opinions would be greatly appreciated. thanx

IMO it's very average, if you can afford it, do your best to get something better. The Vanilla R and DropOff DC are very poor suspension units, and by the time you upgrade the bike to feel have decent, you'll have spent way too much money on it.

what type of rider are you? More details would help us answer that question as the Stinky is a pretty good freeride bike, but not a dedicated DH rig. I purchased just the frame and built it up from there and I am very happy with it and the Jr T fork along with the Vanilla R. Will I upgrade the rear shock? Probably not as I would like to move on to a VP Free or mayby the Iron Horse Sunday. =o)

OVERALL...the Stinky is a great bike for the money.

Its a POS! I would never buy it, save some money and get a better, or buy a used bike, how much are you going to buy it for?

thanx a lot guys for all ur help and opinions. yeah i am more of a weekend free rider. i am actually trading with someone who lives around my area. He wants to trade for my 01 marin team dh with the super t for his stock 04 kona stinky. I haven't been able to sell the bike(its too big) so i'm thinking it would be better to resell the stinky for around $1300. here are the specs of my bike.

I am not sure I would do it, but that is just because I do not really like the geometry of the Stinky...

You can buy a new 04 stinky for 1300 from wheelworld.... So I wouldn't try to sell it for that much. I used to have an 04 Stinky and I snapped the dropoff in half at the arch. I did quite a bit of drops and jumps on it, but nothing horribly abusive. And no Marzocchi didn't warrantee it. They just kept the lowers and returned the internals in a box. Gee thanks. The frame is pretty solid, but nothing special.
