That was quick. Thanks. Any issues on the 04's? Heard something about bushings wearing out fast? That and I have no idea on how the stock Romic performs.

Thanks for the feedback on the Romic. I have decided this week its time to get modern and pick up a new frame. I will miss the twin tubes though.

New bike, eh????

Is it because you don't want to bother installing that new bearing kit :p

I and about 5 of my friends have 04 DHR's. We pretty much love them.
The Romic shock does seem to have an issue with the bushing wearing out where the rear of the shock meets the frame(causes a little bit of play).

It's not a big deal unless you're like me and expect the bike to be as quite as possible. Replacing the bushing can be done for very little $$. I had it replaced before 10 days in the NS/Whistler and about a month later, I noticed the play again. There are other shock options and more should be available soon. I read/seen ones with Avys and the Turner/Honda guys were running PUSHED Fox's(not available to public last I heard) but that looked like a good next option.

Aside from that..I love this bike.

Good luck.

About those bushings; is that something most local bike shops can do? I just noticed that play on my 04 also. Took apart the rear shock & linkage, cleaned and greased everything, and the play is still there. It is minor, but still annoying.

Swap out the DU bushings. I think Romic has started making some more durable bushings aftermarket (e-spec/hearsay).

Yes, I do believe your local LBS can do that..I think it requires a special tool or ?

Annoying???.... I hear ya. That bike is soooo quite and smooth over rough stuff that even the slightest bit of noise just seem outta the norm.

Hey, I'm thinking of hitting the Gabs this weekend....do you know if Angles Crest is open up to Mt.Wilson?

Thanks

Acadian had a news blurb on Pinkbike on the bushing tool:

I found this on a Los Angeles Caltrans site:
SR2 - THE NORTHBOUND CONNECTOR TO EASTBOUND & WESTBOUND I 210 /IN GLENDALE/ (LOS ANGELES CO) IS CLOSED FROM 2000 HRS EACH NIGHT TO 0500 HRS EACH MORNING MONDAY THRU SATURDAY THRU 1/29/05 - DUE TO CONSTRUCTION - A DETOUR IS AVAILABLE

Looks like Wilson is okay for this weekend.

Send me a PM if your coming up.

Hey guys,

I have a 04 turner DHR as well and like you i really hate having any play in the rear end of my bike. I had a similar problem of the rear end feeling loose and i tracked it down to the main pivot just above the BB. This is hard to explain, so look at the pic and read below and you should get what im saying.

Basically, the main pivot bearings have a 45 degree chamfer on the inside of them. On this 45 degree surface sits a black wedge that also has a 45 degree surface. This is the balck thing you can see from the outside. The problem is that the bearings don't sit against the frame and there is a small gap. As you can see the black wedge bolts up tight to the swingam, and the same on the otherside. The looseness comes about if the bearing moves too far into the frame. If it moves to far into the frame can you see how the 45 degree surfaces don't mate up anymore? This causes up and down play as there is a gap there.

I emailed turner about it and they recomend sticking the bearings in with green loctite to stop them moving. I tried this and it still came loose. I ended up making some custem washers to pack the bearings out to the right distance and my bike is super sweet, no play in the rear and has been that way for 3 months. If you do this be careful, if you pack the bearings out to far the the wedges won't but up against the swingarm and you swingarm will be riding on the bolt and will **** it up. Its not hard to do but you need vernieers and a couple of hours of stuffing around.

I am also running an avy on my 04 DHR and it makes the bike so much better then the romic. I found that it wasn't the bushings that were a problem, but the spacers have a bad tolerance or wear quickly causing play. I have never had a problem with the avy.

Hope this helps some of you.

-Matt

Thanks for the 411. If SJT(my backyard) is not open by Sat. It will be Wilson fo sure. If SJT is open, then Wilson on Sun. With all the rain I feel like I haven't ridden in a year. I just want to get on some trail for more than 1hr.

I'll let you know.

You can get 'em through Romic:

http://www.romicmfg.com

or CTS:

http://www.ctsmtb.com/bushingtool.cfm

I'm sure there are other places that sell them as well.

Does CTS sell bushings? I think they just sell a really nice removal/install tool.
Also, as mentioned earlier, I don't think the bushings are bad. I think it has to do with the poorly designed tophat spacers that some shock manufactures use.

Hey man, they are the sickest race forks.......... if i could figure a way to drop a pound or two from them :D Still considering doing zedro's air mod to it, or maybe getting to shiver mojo catrigde and slapping it in. At least it won't snap like the dorados did. Nothing like looking down and seeing 40mm legs to inspire you to do stupid stuff. I can see a fox DH40 in my future, but im going to let someone else do the R&D for me first.

He just didnt want to paint the old one :)

Hurry up and get it already!!!! I want one too
;)

Yeah I scrapped the whole paint thing. Its all been rebuilt ( new bearings, seals etc. ) and now that its all apart a new frame is just calling my name.....
I have three frames in mind ( IH Sunday, DHR, El Cuervo ) and I can not seem to decide. I know what I really want but $2650.00 for a frame seems steep to me.
