Ok I have waited over 6 weeks for my 04 Sherman Slider + 170mm DC forks to
come in. I ordered from my LBS and he ordered through SCruz. I guess SCruz is as slow delivering parts as they are frames :-(

Well he did order the right forks but...

What came in was a top crown for the Slider plus AND a 05 Sherman firefly
with the new SPV evolve 110-150mm travel, 1-1/8" steerer tube.

The bottom crown to axel distance is the same as my 02 Jr T 170mm and since
it has the travel adjustment to 110mm on the fly for climbing I went for it.

So... my question is this.

The new 05 manual lists the firefly with the 1-1/8" steerer comes in 150mm
and 170mm. Anyone know if I can change mine to 170mm?

I plan to sell my 02 Jr T's and maybe these forks too after a couple rides
so I have left the steerer uncut if anyone is interested

i bet you that is a typo. because the flick which is the cheap firefly pretty much is 110-150mm. the flick and the firefly have always had the same travel.

No it isn't a typo... check the pic. It really has 150mm travel. Actualy maybe more than that. I am going to hit a drop today that will bottom it out for sure.

Steerer tube uncut... anyone interested in buying it I really think I need the DC 170mm slider plus

Oh well the manual says that they have a 05 model with SC 1/18" steerer and 170mm travel. I am asking if anyone has seen this fork and what part(s) I need to change mine to 170mm.

Ya I could but I have been riding a DC for awhile now... on my Bullit which gets used as a trail bike fairly often. You know switchbacks and climbs really suck with a bobbing DC... so anyway what happened was I got the wrong forks that have SPV evolve and the same axel to crown distance (about 10mm less) as my 170mm Jr T's and it had the rapid travel adjust for climbs... I thought I would give it a shot.

I installed it last night and read the manual and found the 1/18" steerer with 170mm listed so I am trying to find out about that.

I am hitting a good FR and DH trail tonight so I will make my decision about keeping them. The steerer will remain uncut until I am sure.

Anyone know anything more about Manitou's 2005 line?

I still think it's a typo, because 05 fireflys are available in several places and there is NO mention of a 170mm option, not only that, but Manitou is pretty steadfast in needing the 1.5 steerer for their longest travel single crown forks (the 170mm breakout+). The fact that the new firefly is called the firefly+ is because the travel increased from 130mm to 150mm, not because it is supposed to have the same travel as the slider+.

Even if it was not a typo, it would then most likely be referring to an OEM situation/fork. When you are talking about OEM all bets are off, because many times they depart radically from conforming designs and even if they have the same name as a particular fork they do not have to share the same features as the retail version.

Oh.. OK that makes sense. My forks are OEM. It doesn't say the "firefly" is 170mm just that in the table it lists a SC 1/1-8" steerer with 170mm. I figured maybe I could order the internals to do it but those docs aren't on Answers site yet that is why I was aking.

I just got back from my first real ride... It was a total FR and OMG these 150mm forks ROCK! They sit .5" lower than my 170mm DC forks so I still need to hit a DH run. If they are ok DH I am keeping them, man that SPV evolve is sooo much better.

I am really impressed. I put 50psi in the SPV and I was doing 5' drops to flat and they were just bottoming out and not harshly either. I weigh 195.. probably 215 with my gear on so I am impressed with whatever spring is in there. Also I didn't make the SPV chamber any smaller to resist bottoming.. just stock. It feels perfectly balanced with the 5th on the Bullit.

Once I hit the DH I will see how balanced it stays.
