just got a call from the LBS about a release date of the new 823's, December 27th. Dont really know what that means in human years but since my bike wont be running by then anyway, i might as well get my order in now. So they are ordered.

cant wait to have real tubeless. i can swap tires without hunting down an industrial air compressor. im gonna order some bad boy ust mud tires too.

Ya ever wonder why they just don't produce the D321's (whatever they are called now) and make them tubeless??? In the long run of Mavic using weak tubeless rims, you'd think they would go back to what is proven, the D321 design and adapt that rim to be tubeless.

How bad are the old 823's? I just built Hope Blbs to those...crap.

But I don't ride full-on dh, hard "xc" on my RFX....and some shuttles and sportsclass dh, so I guess they'll hold up.

Maybe not :-)

Hard XC & light DH will be fine for them.

I've been riding my 823's for the last 3 months and they seem to be holding up well...maybe I'm not as Xtreme as the other riders who are breaking the left and right.

um all my bikes run the old 823's. my race bike which i punish to death with 2.35 inch tires and 20 foot drops and 40-50 foor gaps. my street bike which is 360'd over large jumps regularly, they have been on there since my third day learning tailwhips and if you could see some of the angles iv landed them and the rims not break its amazing. my trialbike still smooth as day one, my mtnx bike perfectly straight.

its all in the build in my opinion and granted i do ride my dh bike pretty smoothly but on the street bike thats a whole nother story

Damn, maybe those peeps who have repeated 823 failures need to have his or her wheels laced by you or your wheel builder. Or atleast not expect a different result by repeating the same formula over and over.

I agree about the build. depending on the build-up, you can leave a good rim vulnerable or make a weak rim last a little longer.

Totally agree with build comment. I rode 823's all season, and beat the hell out of them at Mt. Creek - some nasty, rocky terrain. Ran tire pressure 26-28lbs (2.7 Minion front, 2.5 Minion rear), had no problems at all.

Why are they failing? Cause people run 20lb and ride HARD on them?
I am fairly nice to rims, and run 30-35 for general bashing around.

I am a bit "worried", coming from the old 321's which look like they havent been used :-D But lighter is better...maybe.

Wheels look good, Hope Bulb, DT Comp. black...all black. Me like.

But tubeless is a hassle to build, about the only negative I have found so far.

Then let us know what you know.
My friend abused them all season without any sign of weakness. They still hold air and no flat spots even after running as low as 23-25 PSI and sometimes with flat tires. So if new 823's are the same rims as SSC Deemax rims they should take some abuse

I was killing them with 30psi or less, but like I said a lot depends on the terrain you're riding. N* has lots of sharp rocks, and they don't last long there with a low tire pressure.

Sharp rocks is the a killer but Brian you are riding the 2004s I thought there will be differences in 05?
They are different, however a buddy of mine killed his 05 823, then again I can't fully say they are bad, because it was a very poor build.
