Sorry, don't have info for you- you'll probably start seeing it soon. I saw you're from Ojai. What's it like there? Any good riding? DH? Jumps? possibility for shore?

/sorry to threadjack... pm me if you have info/feedback

Yeah looks sweet. I wanna know if it's a big-hit bike w/ heavy parts or a light DH race bike.

specialized is in santa cruz right now with a HUGE fleet of bikes, but only for dealers and press, bastids. i've gone there 3 times to see if i could try some out and they've said no.
from what i've seen it looks like the enduro's don't have the Horst pivot anymore, but i could be wrong as i've only seen them in passing.
oh yeah, and the demo's have the fox dh fork. looks

Weird did you see what kind of link the enduros had? Wierd, cuz I know a Specialized rep who says he doesn't know anything about the new bikes. I ordered my catalog on the website. It'll be here in a couple weeks, so we'll see.

Yeah NSMB had that posted a few weeks ago. The demo 8 looks nice, but I like the lines on the 9 better. They curved the bottom of the downtube a bit to cut weight...

yeah. like i said, i didn't see them up close, so i could be wrong. if there is a pivot, it's a pretty small one though
Specialized isn't going to give up "their" patented design so quickly, I'm sure, especially when all their other bikes are touting it. Unless it looked like a radically different suspension design, I'm 99.9% sure it's still got the Horst link.

Since you didn't mention that the suspension design was significantly different I'll assume it's pretty similar looking. If that's the case, there HAS to be a pivot of some kind near the dropout, and the marketing department would go into fits if they put the pivot above the rear dropout.

they may have just streamlined the package to make it look nicer.

and its a demo 6... not a demo 8.. my rep was like, "and WHY would we need a bike with one less inch of travel?"

but its sweet.

Really??!

That's interesting. I thought they were knocking an inch off the travel and making the chassis a lot lighter for more of a race oriented bike, rather than FR oriented.

Demo 6.. Hmm.. Anyone have a final figure on the weight?

They did. I saw one last weekend. It a lot lighter than a demo 9, and is very race oriented.

How's the knee?
going for X-Rays today as soon as my insurance tells me who I'm allowed to see. It looks sick. Ryane won't look at it. The swelling is off the charts and just nasty painful. Matt almost witnessed me cry when he dropped me off and I had to walk inside the house. That guy is seriously an Eagle Scout! :nopity:

at the shop just left for the spec convention and he should bring back all the info. But from what I understand there will be a 6in enduro FR kinda bike for those who want to go uphill, a demo 8 to I THINK replace the bighit (sorry bighit lovers) and then the monster demo9 as the flagship chassis.

it did look different. shock was lower and more horizontal. it's very possible that it wasn't even an enduro i saw, but it looked to be a 5"ish bike, so i just assumed. it does look like they've revamped their line pretty seriously this year. but i'm gonna stop now because i'm just another internet speculator who only saw these bikes from a distance. these question will all be answered soon because we'll see 'em in the magazines real soon.

OK heres the deal... Specialized is eliminating the Big Hit line and making just Demos. They will make a Demo 9, a Demo 8, and a Demo 6. The Demo 9 is top-of-the-line, the Demo 8 replacing the Big Hit expert, and the Demo 6 is replacing the Big Hit Comp. Rumor has it that there will be a Demo 9 in race trim (real light, with lots 'o travel). I have also heard that there is gonna be an Enduro with slightly longer travel and it will be sub-32 pounds. This might have been what you saw.

specialized is getting really protective over the fsr suspension. I'd really b surprised to see that they aren't using it for 05. I know that they upped the price for license fees a bit, and are getting really restrictive over who gets to use it. This may be the reason Jamis had to drop the horst link on their bikes. Kinda sucks because their XLT bikes we're awesome performers with it.

Also, this maybe why intense is dropping FSR stuff so quickly, when their is opbviously a demand for it? who knows

Iron Horse, too.
I can't wait for the new Specialized, I have two dealers with like 5 miles. But meh...I won't give a sh**, i'll be riding a new SGS...muhahaha. A scaled down Demo in 6" does sound killer though. That would be an awesome bike with the new Marzocchi 66, or one of the Shermans. I'm about to cream just thinking about it.

Specialized '05 line is looking very sick indeed!

The Horst Link is here to stay (at least for '05), the Enduro is gaining a bit of travel (6") and getting a whole redesign for the higher end models (same as the speculated "Demo 6", but still called Enduro and with no sub-seat stay like the Demo's) There is also a really nice revamp of the SX (in fact two new versions, race w Fox 36/trail w Marz 66) The Demo line will have a lighter (race) and beefier (freeride) version with really nice and appropriate specs including Ti sprung 5th's on the race models. The Big Hit is still here and the price just keeps getting better! Look for Manitou Stance forks and other performance/budget spec on the entire big hit line. The new colors are all really nice and there is a lot more exciting new stuff coming but you will have to wait just a bit longer to see just how sweet the new bikes really are!

Word on the 66 is it has up to 6.6" travel hence the "66" moniker...that makes more sense than 6lbs/6" travel/6" rotors???

Well the "666" would sound a helluva lot cooler ;)

Whats with you and 666?
I assume the SX is frame and fork in 2005 or is it complete? I believe that will be one of my new rides for 05 with a possible demo 9, 6, or rocky mountain rmx team in the mix. :thumb:
