Currently ploughing through the Canterbury Tales in old English.
Those old-timey books are a hoot, aren't they? I've been immersed in several 16th and 17th century "housewife" type guides trying to decipher a 16th century beer recipe for modern use.

Just finished - Mister B. Gone, Clive Barker
Currently - The Plundering Time: Maryland and the English Civil War
On Deck - TBD

Still trying to work my way through the Elegant Universe (string theory, can't remember the author).

Just finished Kafka's The Metamorphosis which was quite out there and I don't want to write a paper.

Also re-reading Nelson Demille's Plum Island because I remember liking that book and it's been a while since I first read it.

Aside from school reading, I've started a few books this year with no real chance of finishing them until the summer:

The Problem of Christianity by Josiah Royce
A Secular Age by Charles Taylor
Sources of the Self by Charles Taylor
Prophesy Deliverance by Cornel West

Notice a theme?

I haven't read anything good enough to write about, yet this year.
I just picked up The Sky People by SM Stirling from the library. He's pretty good if you want tongue in cheek alternative history silliness.

Not much this year. I've been working way too much. I did just finish "Toward the Light of Liberty" by AC Grayling, and I'm going to rush through another Vonnegut I haven't read yet on a plane this week.

Not where I'd like
Here is my completed list for 2008 thus far (in no particular order):

Stephen King, Black House
Stephen King, Duma Key (only another 30-some pages left)
Timothy Ferriss, The 4-Hour Workweek (I read this 3 times in 2007, will likely re-read another couple times this year)
Michael Cox, The Meaning of Night
Jordan Rubin, Perfect Weight America
Stephen Colbert, I Am America, and So Can You!
Michael Isikoff, Hubris
Jonathan Swift, Gulliver's Travels (gotta have a classic every once in a while)
A. J. Jacobs, The Know-It-All
Ruth King, The Ugly Truth About Managing People

there is one more, but it has escaped me right now :poster_oops:

Best so far this year has been Shirley Jacksons’ “We Have Always Lived in the Castle.” A good dark read. I’ve also have been slightly addicted to self published poetry books. Usually their limited and signed. Also the author gets more money than they would from a half hearted book deal.

The Zombie Survival Guide
Have you read his "follow-up" book, "World War Z?"
One of the best books I've read in a while, interesting how he took a lot from the Survival Guide, and the way it's written, as a series of interviews, is really interesting.

Opie: I'm a HUGE Gaiman fan, but I couldn't bring myself to see the Stardust movie. I guess the book meant a lot to me, and I don't want to spoil my memories of it.

Anyone here read Neal Stephenson? Big fan of his stuff, I think Cryptonomicon is probably my favorite book ever. And huge props for someone who names the main character of "Hiro Protagonist."

That's a fun one :D

Under the Banner of Heaven - John Krakauer
Book of Mormon, for ****s and giggles...it's been awhile.
Out of My Later Years - Albert Einstein
It's actually been quite interesting, better than I expected for sure. It's something I've been meaning to read for some time, but always found a reason not to.

I read Under the Banner of Heaven awhile back.

I'm in the last few chapters of the Bible. I started a one-year read through sometime mid-February last year. I should finish in just under a year (or exactly in a year).

I'm also reading "UnChristian". Insight to why the Christian church is so frowned upon in today's culture.

I would also like to read "Blasphemy". Can't remember the author... but it looks good.

Gaiman rules, and Stardust the movie really wasn't too bad. probably one of my favorite book to movie interpretations as well.

I'm sure it's not. Claire Danes looked like a good choice for the character she plays, I just have a very strong mental image of that book, and don't want to change it.

I love his retelling of the Snow White story from his book of short stories. The new one is really, really good too...

I got bored with the Zombie Survival Guide after about 20 minutes. To be revisited. I have World War Z. I 'll read that after the Survival Guide.
