I'm selling my 08 Turner Sultan FS (Lg). Bought it new, haven't ridden it for, ahem, years. Great shape, details in invoice in pics. Any advice on what it's worth?

I mean it's are beautifully spec'd bike for it's day (some of the parts are still nice even for this day... Lots of people love the Salsa gear).
BUT, outside of the old school and collectables buyers you won't get a lot.
For the average punter the straight steerer is a big problem.... no like absolutely NO good mid to high end replacement forks are made for it anymore. It's 29er so no worries there. That straight steerer though.... Bugger.

Do you have any friends with kids about that size? Because with these types of things, the karma points end up being worth MANY times more than the few hundred (honestly) that you would get for it.

Man, I wanted one of those BAD when they first came out. Unfortunately for you, that bike is a product of its time. The geometry alone indicates its definitely from a certain era. Like @DaveW says, great specs for its age and it looks like it's in great shape, but mountain bikes have progressed TONS since then.

Yep - it's the straight steerer that has rendered pretty much all of these older bikes obsolete, I'm afraid. Sucks, 'cause I have an old 2010 Reign that is completely functional, but is going to, at some point, need a fork.

I enjoyed mine for the 4+ years I was on it, rode it all over the country. Raced a bunch of 100 milers on it too.

I bikepacked the Oregon Timber Trail on my 2008 Sultan in 2017, and get no better Strava results with my Esker Japhy. Go figure. Most bike "innovations" simply break compatibility in order to drive consumerism. Don't be a sucker. Ride the bike you're with 8-)

The Sultan was the bike that sold me on "wheel size is not a replacement for travel". Its was a great bike, no doubt. I demoed it when DT was in Sedona, along w/a 5.5 spot. I was on my Turner 6pack at the time, w/avy chubby. The DW link stuff did gobble up the small chatter nice, as well as pedal nice, but slamming tech and terrain, didn't have near the stability of my rig at the time. I felt the 5.5 spot was better, w more travel and 26" wheels, it was much more fun to flick left and right, maneuver in the chutes, etc. My current bike at the time was just hands down better than both for my riding. The sultan was more of an XC marathon bike. That said, when the proposition is one bike, I think 120mm 29er is pretty much perfect.

I demoed a Sultan for a 12 hour race. I hated it. The handling sucked. Not sure if it was because I was just used to some very agile bikes of the time but the big wheels plus narrow rims, narrow bars, steep head angles made it handle like shit. Once turned in it held a line like nothing else at the time but getting it to turn-in required an act of Congress with a lot of flip flo. Great for fast sweeping turns but terrible in the tight stuff.

Bikes still had cables guides on the top of the top tube in 08?
The X9 derailleur is the only part on that bike I'd be happy to own.

I think there was a 10spd sram derailleur right before the 1x revolution that was functionally about the same, but the 1x package was so much better than what came before for solid precise shifting and engagement. I'd have no problems with those cranks tho. I had a pair, they were solid.
