I thought the non goal on Foligno was brutal...Kunitz' "goal" with the net clearly off its moorings...game did not need three OTs...
Really? I think the NHL needs to look into modifying the current "kick" rule.

I think one could argue that "by the book" Foligno's goal could have been ruled valid, but last time I skated, you only put on the brakes and position your skates apart in a fashion like that as an involuntary reaction to try to collect the puck. You can also pretty clearly see that he does "twitch" (It wasn't really a clear kick) his trail skate pretty dramatically to try to direct the puck in the net. I thought that the official and league made the right call. Hell the Sens knew that it shouldn't have been a goal.

My issue is that the league had to do the right thing in spite of the rule as they wrote it.

As far as Kunitz's goal. The net never fully lifted off the mooring.

But damn, that was the most boring 3OT game I've ever seen especially compared to the B's/Sabres game the night before.

Looking forward to tonight. This has been some of the best 1st round action I've remembered in recent years.

go kings go

Should be an intense game tonight. The team that wins tonight will win the series. If LA wins, we carry the momentum back to home for the game Sunday night. If Van wins they will take it in game 7 at home.

You could definitely see that little twitch of his foot to get control of the puck in slow-mo.

I have to agree that the OT's kinda sucked another than the first 5 minutes or so of each one. Then it seemed that they would shut it down and not want to make any mistakes.

Gonchar sucks. I can't wait to he goes somewhere else.

I saw a deflection, not a "distinct kicking motion..."

And Inclag, I thought anytime the net is dislodged results in a stoppage, to say it didnt come completely off...what is the % of offness? (There is none...) Shoulda been a stoppage as soon as it came up...

Bruins forgot to show up for two periods last night. It isn't gonna be that easy to win the series over Buffalo - no way.

Halak was sharp in goal for Montreal last night.

Damned Canucks - c'mon Kings!

IAB must be a happy fella this a.m. - 3-2 Wings win.

Cooke is a cheap shot, knee to knee elbow throwing gutless little punk. He is lucky Evander Kane is not in the playoffs...
Don Cherry was right, he is such a goon.

2 goals for Cooke and the Pens come from 3 down to win in OT. Next round please.

How about that Hawks/Preds game? Freaking crazy. It is funny how the good teams find a way to win. The Preds are done.

That Blackhawks game was nuts! I can't believe the Preds didn't just "kill the clock" when they were on the power play. Legwand makes the cardinal sin of passing into the slot with a one goal game - dumbest play of the playoffs so far.

I agree, the Pens-Sens alone would have been a great Finals series.

I watched the Red Wings drop the ball yesterday. I have not see them play that poorly in years. Or it was just the Coyotes playing extremely well, I didn't watch them play much this year so I don't know.

Hossas hit on Hamhuis was brutal, think he should have been suspended?

Nucks are dangerous...mainly to themselves. They will implode.

Hossas hit was nasty and irresponsible, especially when he could have rode Hamhuis into the boards. I hate the push and shove mentality. Drop a shoulder into him or just rub him out a bit. As a Hawk fan, I think Hoss should sit a game. But lets make it next year...

Or as someone said on the broadcast - remove that stupid trapezoid and let the goalies play the puck again. That rule is/was stupid.

I hate those shoves near the boards like that - so dangerous.

The NHL really needs to take a close look at their rulebook again.

Case in point - Chara - he should be out for tonight's game for instigating with less than 5 minutes left........but nope - the NHL bends the rules once again.

I still can't believe that Nashville f'd up that power play at the end of the third the way they did. So dumb. They deserved the L for that boneheaded play with the man up at the end of the third.

Ding Ding we have a winner. Seriously how does that thing improve offense? Giving the goalie the chance to play the puck would do more.

That and touch icing... dumb.

Who's winning tonight?

Agreed, it was the exact same hit ovechkin made on campbell or whatever his name was and got suspended for.

I can't believe the predators gave taht stupid game away to the hawks ....

Red wings :( Got to give it to the coyotes they've been hanging in this series and playing hard, the wings just don't look like the wings of the last 10-15 years, they are really missing the toughness/grind line kinda guys they used to have.

Youre joking right, Gaustad takes a two handed slash at the back of his leg with 2 seconds to go, and hes not supposed to respond because theres two seconds to go? Why is chara supposed to turn the other cheek while buffalo continued with their cheap crap with the game in hand, and the clock running out.

Go Desert Dogs! Was shocked to see all the empty seats at teh Joe yesterday when I tuned in w/ 8 minutes left. Have "HockeyTown" fans lost hope? Earlier I posted that I saw no panic in the Wings, but could some be creeping in? 'Yotes will need Bryzgaloz to be HUGE again, along w/ Jovocop and Doan (If he skates...) but judging from some of the reactions yesterday (Abdelkaders scrap @ the end...) I think the Wings are starting to doubt themselves. Will we see Ozzie?

hossa shoulda got 2 games.
What other precedent has the league set this year for hits from behind? (Honest question...I dont know outside of Ovechkin). Ovy got a few simply because Campbell was hurt, Hamhuis didnt miss a shift.

I agree, it was garbage, but 2 games? In the playoffs?

Chara should have recognized the situation for what it was and got a number for next game.

yeah he's not supposed to respond. It is called discipline.

No panic, but a TON of CONCERN!!

With 8 minutes left they were down by like 3 or 4 goals, no reason to stick around. Abdelkaders scrap at the end was instigated with his "fight" hit on the other dude earlier in the period and then the coyote's team mate came and punched him a few times, I think he was just looking to even it up and get some frustration out.

The wings of old with mccarty, lapointe, grimson and others woulda broke that third period wide open, sent a message, and been in the back of phoenix's mind from the end of the game to the start of game 7, that toughness is missed dearly.

:stupid:

Retaliating in that situation is dumb. You're just going to draw a penalty, or worse, which is going to hurt your team. That's what should come first, not personal retaliation.

The fact that it's the playoffs shouldn't matter. A stupid and dangerous play is just that, no matter what time of year. I think 2 games is overkill, but I don't buy your point about the playoffs.

So who wins tonight?

I predict the Boston v Buffalo game goes into OT - Patrice Bergeron gets the game winner.

I predict that Montreal blows a two goal lead in the third period to lose to Washington in OT. Alexander Semin gets the game winner in OT (he's due).

Who else plays tonight?

but it's certainly not instigating. which was the point of the argument, no?
the instigating penalty refers to dropping the gloves first to initiate a fight, so in this instance Chara technically instigated the fight.

I'm just not a big fan of the big guy. I think he's over-rated and could do so much more out there on the ice than he does. But maybe he has to pace himself because he has to play so many minutes. Who knows. I'm just not a big fan of his game.

Oh and I can't believe I'm typing this - but here goes - I thought Hal Gil actually played a really good game the other night in Washington. Yep - every now and again even a guy like Gil can come up with a good game. ;)

He'll probably be a minus three tonight though!

My point was more tongue in cheek, kinda relative to the Chara situation (Guess I should recalibrate the sarcasm-o-meter...). Fact is, when these are 2 of the hotter issues (Instigator and hit from behind...) discipline needs to be leveled evenly and instantly, no double standards. I would liek the league to move to a perpetrator gets twice as game suspended as games missed by the victim standard. Also, the details of the instigator rule leave too much to interpretation.
The only reason I am "happy" Hossa got nothing is cuz he is a Hawk. I am a little hypocritical that way...dont judge me!

Kickstand, you are forgetting Yzerman, Hull and Fedorov...

We should all know that the NHL calls a completely different set of rules for the playoffs. If you are a star player you are not getting suspended because the midget wants to sell the game to the common viewer.

One other thing... Hossa sucks.

Washington, how heavy is that weight on your shoulders now?

Somehow when their powerplay shuts down and they are not playing the southern division they aren't so great.

Can't wait for the Phoenix game tonight. Has been such a good series, and I can't believe that I'm rooting for the Yote's, but they're such a fun team to watch and root for.

It was also good to see the Hawks play with a little fire under their arses and take that series against the Preds. I really thought that series was there for the taking, but the Hawks proved me wrong.

Almost time for round 2!!
