but seriously, the 40 thing kind of sucks, since its one of the major forks out there, but its still a rad looking bike, and as I'm on a boxxer team and loving it, I'd happily throw a leg over the new demo, looks rad!

hey man, i will take the "stoke" of this offseason vs the "hating" everyone was obsessed with last offseason. i think for the most part if somebody drops ~3k on a new frame they are going to sing the praises of that frames strong points no matter what they may be. last year it was superlight frames, this year its "OMG my superlight frame dented last year, my new "beefy" frame is moar better in every way!" either way, its stoke and its good to see. i need to live vicariously b/c I'm still on my '09 demo for the foreseeable future.

Good stuff. If weight weenie-itis strikes, you can definitely get it under 39 lbs.

If I remember right demos are 4kg w/o shock. My legend is maybe 50g lighter and with 823s and saint brakes it is 37lbs atm. Will be lower. No weight weenie needed. Well maybe a bit if you count the ti bolts.

I know but to say you're not near the woodwork isn't exactly true considering Seymour still has some of the original skinny trails in well maintained condition. Love them or hate them they are a part of the history of the sport.

Demos are completely compatible with Fox 40. You just need to use the Compatibility Kit that come with all framesets, and be sure you ask for the newer bumpers.

There were some bad bumpers that were too soft (first batch). Specialized will replace them for you free of charge if you call. The ones I received are much harder and seem to work great. They also include a tiny spacer to put under your race that will shove the crown down an extra tiny bit.

No issues so far!

64 with a boxxer right at 8'' slammed, with a drop crown or the fork pulled out taller (8.5-9'' exposed stanchion) puts it in the 63's. Measured with an accurate inclinometer, bike flipped in its place to account for the floor angle etc.

Also for anyone who is dying to run the vivid without a new yoke, the vivid will fit in the stock yoke if you grind a little material off of the shocks eyelet. Since the stock fox and the vivid use the same 1/2'' bushing, the eyelets are the same height and width for the yoke to clamp onto. You will notice the vivid eyelet fits perfectly until about half way into the yoke and then stops, because the outer surface of the vivid eyelet has a slight curve where as the fox is flat on all sides. I'm sure specialized won't officially recommend this, but I had extra vivid's to play around with and the yoke-eyelet interface seems just as solid. In the low/slack position the older style in-line rebound adjuster is a little hard to get at, but do able.

How accurate are those ipad measurements, i would think that its only as accurate as the bike is on flat ground. my house is a little tiled, so while the fork is sittin at 64, its really 65 since teh floor is slanted in its favor. Do you have to set the "ground" before you put it on the fork?

Taking a reading off the floor is pointless. An easy way is to measure it in one direction and turn it 180 with the wheels in the same spot and measure it again to find the mean. The most accurate is to put the bike on a straight edge and take a reading off that.

Some floors will throw a reading off by 2-3 degrees, so it is important to find somewhere as flat as possible, and then flip the bike 180 measuring twice as said.
