Finally got my frame this week. After building it up I'm struck by the attention to detail:
- torque settings just where you need them on the frame graphics
- awesome cable routing with the screw down cable clamps, even having 5mm one side for brake, and 4mm the other side for shifter plus the writing on the inside telling you which is which
- the ingenious piggy-back mounted cable guide
- the deurailler hanger mount & axle pinch bolt combo
- custom chain slap protection that part screws on
- so freakin easy to get the shock out - omg what a revelation
- forward thinking with bb30 (shame SRAM is slow out of the gate on that one)
- smoooooth welds etc for easy cleaning
I'm sure the list goes on but that's what comes to mind.
My only minor niggles so far is having to run my upper 888 crown with a 5mm spacer under it cos otherwise it hits the top tube although this will be solved if/when Marzocchi make a flat crown.
Damn I hope it rides as good as it's designed. So excited for it's first ride tonight!!

Any 2011 Demo owners have any extra derailleur guard pin for Saint RD's? My frame didn't come with the extra pins and the one installed on the frame is too.

do you have to use that derailleur guard with SRAM? with that guard on, i can't get to my 11T gear. it physically acts as a stop.
Good question. I know my Saint works perfect. Considering the stock bikes come with SRAM RD's and 12-26 cassettes. I'm thing it might not work with a SRAM RD and 11 tooth cassette.
I have this style RD protector from my Enduro but I don't think it will work with 12mm axles. I"ll have have to check this weekend.

I ordered a large flo yellow frame through a bike shop last november, and the owner said they should be in by the end of feb or beginning of march. I talked to him recently to see wtf is going on, and he said he hasn't heard anything from specialized that there is an issue so he's just waiting.

Here in Germany the next large flow yellow frames will arrive at the end of this month.
reading through this thread pisses me off so bad. The new Demo was to be my new bike at the end of this year, but there's issues with Fox 40's ( I have a 40), proprietary shock mount ( I have a CCDB I want to put on), and they designed it to only work with DT hubs?????? Why sell as a frame only if......only boxxers work right, and only certain hubs work right. Unless they fix all these issues I will stay away from the new Demo. Its like Spec went out of their way to make this bike a Fvckin nightmare for frame only buyers.
CCDB fits, my Hope hubs fit fine, dorados and 888s also fit without the 40 bumpers, which by the way makes the 40 work with the frame and I don't think specialized lost any sleep over you not buying a frame
There are several hubs, that work with the frame without problems, e.g. Hope or DT. The CCDB will fit the Demo, if you order the right adapter.

I just sold my old wheels last night to a dude from Idaho who moved to Johnson City, TN recently. He had the brand spanking new yellow frame brand new in the back of his car. I have to assume by his height that he was on a medium though.
And that thing is seriously, seriously glossy.
Need to be careful with the dorado, under extreme load, you can compress the bumpers enough such that the lower crowns hit the downtube. My only gripe is that the headtube is way too short. My hope hubs bolt on just fine.

Oh dear. Your shop should be chasing Speccy constantly otherwise you'll keep falling to the bottom of the pile. My shop have been chasing them since January and mine just turned up this week. It's worth the wait!

right..... so Hope and DT hubs work....otherwise its dremel time. So if you don't have hope or DT you either have to grind up a new frame or spend even more $$$$ to buy a new hub.....for what benefit??
I do like the taller headset option as opposed to using dodgy fork bumpers. I don't expect Spec to lose sleep over me, but maybe they should over the other thousand or so people in the same boat. I've never heard of a frame with this many limitations.

i have hadleys.. i just ground down the hub end cap diameter with a dremel.
as a reference for how much material i was taking off, i put a penny over the end cap, centered it, and used a black sharpie marker to mark around it. the material i took off was pretty much perfect as pennys are around 19mm and the demo was designed for 20mm end caps i think.
i didnt mess with the frame.
the method i used for dremeling was standing the wheel up so the hub end cap was facing me
then i used the dremel with a bit sorta looking like the 4th one from the left in this picture (although not as big of a "head" on the bit) --> http://www.naturalhorsetrim.com/Cheryls_dremel_bits.jpg
and held it next to the hub cap so that the dremel was still in place, and the end cap was spinning. did this for a bit to remove most of the material and then used the cylinder-sander bit to smooth it all out.

Quick question for any of any of the dealers, shop guys, or Mr. Boomslang... Does Specialized sell just the seatstay part of the rear end for the 2011 Demo? My first scratch on the bike was a huge dent on the seatstay (or whatever they would call the top most stay of the rear where the axle/brake/derailleur mount). I think its OK to ride for now, but its a nasty dent and I'd like to get that piece replaced.

I have used 1 on the drive and 0 on the other side. No other washers needed, except for that wavy one that goes between the crankarm and the bearing on the drive side. Be sure you see the radius of the spindle when mounting the non drive side crankarm. Should be working as it is working for me flawless. Hope I could help.
Did you get the e13 cranks working with the built-in adapters? My cranks are on the way, and I was concerned I would have fit issues while waiting for the press fit cups to arrive.

Anybody else having trouble keeping the bb30 cup adapters flush?
I installed as per the directions with green loctite and the forward edge of the cup (drive side) starts to creep out (about 1mm) after a few rides. I already removed, rotated the cup, reinstalled, and the same sh!t happened. The Saints are also installed correctly with proper torque so Im out of ideas.

I'm having the same issue with Descendants. The plastic cups just work their way out. During some routine maintenance this morning, I noticed the cup had slid almost 5mm out of the BB!
But how can they work out ? Don't you screw your bottom bracket into the BB30 cups and then thighten the cranks ?

If your cranks were tight enough to do that, nothing would turn...
were the cranks arms almost falling off too?
id think that if your cranks were tight to begin with, the BB cups couldnt work their way out...unless you had 5mm of space b/w the crank and BB cup
The way descendants work they bottom out on one side with a floating bearing on the other. They will never sit tight on both sides of the BB (as with most cranks.)
In fact, the BB cups are still nice and tight in the adapters, and the crankbolts were bottomed out. I only noticed as I had to pull my chainguide to put in a new one for testing and was like...wtf?
BTW- it was driveside only. The non drive side has never had an issue.
Edit: Just talked with someone at Specialized. Seems like this has been noticed on Descendant cranksets with specialized's cups.

Could always drill and tap the BB shell in a couple areas and install some 4-40 set screws to prevent the adapters from creeping.
