Yeah I'm also not a fan of anything proprietary IF you can have an alternative that is not proprietary and as good I.E. wheelsets, pedals.

I don't care how it looks. Regular pins have prooven to grip better for me and they are easier to get in case of rock strikes. All my pedals loose pins. Why the hell pay extra for something more expensive and fancy when you are going to loose that anyway? Makes no sense for me.
Seem to vaguely recall that you could use standard hardware in a pinch... think it was in a video about them.
I think it's the same TPI as most pedals so you can run standard set screw style pins, those are just optional oem pins that are moar better.
Why not use standard pins and make the pedal cheaper? The new pins have marginal benefits outside of looks and marketing.

I hope it was. I'm basing that on the cost of replacement pins for twenty6 pedals. I think the local distro told me ~40$. I know that's not the production cost but that's a good excuse to make the pedals that more expensive
For now I just haven't met pedals that perform noticably better than my wah wahs with long pins. The more expensive pedals upgrade has similar worth to me as going from an x9 to an x0 rear derail. I really want a new fancy shmancy pedal but I just can't justify the prices.Seriously? I have tested many pedals when I switched to flats. I have the benefit of testing quite a lot of gear. I'm yet to meet a "special" pin that felt better. Do I have to have an official RM badge of expertISM to disagree with a new rm fanboy gadget? Gotta say, I was with you on that one, rode wah wahs and nothing felt better for 3 odd years. Then i got a pair of podium point ones and I really think once they wear out, I'll just buy another pair. You seem to miss the point. Product decisions always have reasons - a company like e13/hive tend to base those decisions around function and real-world feedback rather than ornamentation, however there are always more factors at work here that we may not be privy to. These have been in the works since around 2004 mind you, so this is far from the latest RM fanboy gadget. E13 makes expertly designed and engineered high quality goods - I'm a fan of that, yes. Knock it all you want, but based on their track record, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. It also goes without saying that it's a business not an academic exercise.
Take the e13 badge off and think about them now. It's good to hope that they will be better but it's not like you can't judge them for yourself. Pedals are very simple products. I also do believe that e13 makes quality products but I really hope you don't judge all the products you buy solely on mfg history.
In case you missed it; you can bum pins off your friends, you don't need to be mad anymore.
I'm not really mad just surprised. Also I wonder how much the fancy pedals influence the e13 price (not in terms of production cost but allowing them to position the pedal even higher). I really like their other 2012 products though. That rim and new cranks are awesome.
