Hey, I have a Giant ac which I use as a DH only bike. I"m kickin around the idea of running a 24 inch wheel in the back to relax the HA a bit, Does anyone run this setup? Or maybe a similar setup on a bike not exactly ment for DH?
Sure it will relax the headangle. It will also make it slower in the rough and thus a poorer dh bike. I know a guy who runs one on his ac but personally I'm unsure of how good an idea it is. What fork's on there?
I just put on the 04 manitou slider plus. which increased the travel from 5 to 7 inches up front. Was also thinking about the swingarm upgrade but I'm unsure of what it would do to the geometry of the bike.
before I got the v10..it's ok but not really worth it...just felt not right...but then I transferred all the stuff to my Pitbull frame and the 24" feels a lot more natural.
It was just that a 24" puts you further back which is good but rollin over rocks is a lot harder and with an AC not having as much travel as a normal DH bike it really just doesn't work. For DH stick with the 26" rear (I use it on my v10).
Please put a big fat 24" tire on there and let me know how it works. I think it's gonna be an improvement althou not a popular idea.
I have a Z150 on my AC and it's a good fast trail bike with the head angle at 67 degrees. I would like to try it with 66 degrees HA that a 24" rear would provide.
The 24" would be stiffer for San Diego's rock garden riding areas too.
ive got a super T on my ac and its racked and can be slow at times but its still fast where it counts and thats with a 26. i put my 24 on and it becomes even slower in courners and over rocks.

It's not a question of how bad they are; but a question of how not as good as a 26 they are at it. No real DH race bike is meant to run a 24" (that I know of; other than bmw.) The Bighits are freeride bikes. This is why I get Bighit riders asking me for the chainstays off of my 2000 FSR DH (that runs a 26.)
I finally got around to trying the 24 on the back of the AC. After I got used to the steering being a bit slower, I really got into it. It felt great on the really steep stuff, and I didn't notice any speed or handling problems, in fact I think this has been the best I have ever ridden. I did notice however that I wacked my cranks a bit more often. It took the corners just fine and since mountain creek is one big rock garden I can truly say I had no problems negotiating them.
I've been curious to ask someone who might know, i just got an 03 AC. Is it warrantied for a Dual crown? I've heard yes and no.
call me crazy but i'll be running dual 24" DHX's with arrow prime bite tires for DH. Same wheels i used on my 243 when it had my 04 super t mounted to it. I love the 24" wheels coming from a bmx backround.
Yellow Fox, I talked to the Giant rep on the phone and in person and He told me that they are warrantied for dual crown use. Actually they didn't even change the way they made the headtube, I was told that giant just never tested the frame to use the dual crown forks, but because they got so many questions regarding the issue they tested the bikes and they were able to handle the added stress just fine. It was also reported in mountain bike action a while ago. Go ahead and run it bro and don't worry.
thanks a lot dude! I had talked to them myself today because i had to get a headset for it and the guy said the 03's are warrantied as are the 04's but the 04's are reinforced to play it safe.
