What's crazy is a friend of mine move to Calif. and he told me they approved him for something close to $500k. But here there is no way he would have been approved for that. What are they doing different out there. I don't get it.
One realator told us we could get into a house in the $280000 range, well not really a house, more of a shack. She said with "creative financing" our monthly payment would be something like $2100 (which is still more than I make so I don't know how she expected us to be able to move in), the catch was double mortages and interest only payments, basically we'd never stop making payments on the house and only own whatever portion of the home appreciates, which will eventually hit a ceiling or will be consumed by inflation. I figure for half that price I can keep my property taxes, rent an apartment in a nicer part of town and at some point I'll move out of Cali where I can actually afford to make payments on a home I might some day own.

Yeah - from those liquor stores that don't even look at you and ask for it...... because they're "required" to do it. ;)
