short chain stays...But i get better handling out of my Giant DH even though it has longer chain stays. If I was this kid id sell it and buy a Tomac... I love that frame.
The only reason to keep your specialized is so you can tape over the IZ and make it a SPECIAL ED bike.

I was in the same position a while back, debating whether to buy the BETD stays and a spv type shock for racing. I ended up selling the frame and buying a used Turner DHR. Overall I spent a little more than I would have on the shock and stays, but the Turner is a much better frame.
buy a new frame. the bighits allready very long. thatll ust make it handle like crap.
