This on a set of 30mm rims seems like it would be the way forward to maximize fun and strength. It would be close to a 650b diameter anyways.

Is the 26" 30mm rim and 26x2.6 tire even available? I feel like if I invested in this setup I'd be pissed off in a year due to lack of industry support...

I'm on CK laced to 650b 471's currently. I'd build up something similar if it was available. One thing I'm not a fan of is lacing up a $trange wheelset to find there ain't no tires and the rims are discontinued.

I have been on 2.35/2.4" for over a decade now. From talking to lots of people it seems the 30mm ID rim is the sweet spot for MTB, especially with a little more girth in the tire. IMO, the bigger tires on narrow rims get all squared off feeling and don't lean over very smoothly. My peeps are telling me this new setup, 30mm/2.6," has it all - lower pressures, more volume for protection, playfulness... without feeling like those boat anchors that were developed for the free ride movement 15 years ago.

Wider rims square off tires, not bigger tires on narrow rims. That makes them too rounded if anything.

FWIW, I've got some 2.6 tires on 25mm rims and can tell you that looking at the way the profile sits now, 30mm rims would make them almost useless on edge.

Well fuck... I am going to go slow into this unchartered territory. I don't really have gripes with the current setup but I miss 26 and would like to get back on it. Plus I haven't changed my tire setup in so long that I figure science has mastered the art of chubby and then semi chubby so maybe shits improved. It seems the industry has finally figured out the 2.4ish sweetspot.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I've been riding some 27.5 wheels with 2.6 tires on my trail bike lately and I like the tires, like the rims, but not so into the laggy bigger diameter.

Just from what I know, maxxis makes a 2.4 DHR2 that is bigger than a lot of companies' 2.5s. Those things are fine, as in good, for a front tire. I'm on the prowl for a pretty specific set of 26" wheels right now and those are the tires I'm going to use.

Bigger tires makes more sense than bigger hoops. I think a 26x2.6 seems like the happy spot, especially if the tires are around 1000g.

Also wondering if a 26x2.6 would fit in my Trans Am chainstays, me thinks it's time for a new steel singlespeed built around these potential happy inducers (26x2.6).

My peeps say they can run 18-22 psi without their shit rolling over in berms. And these guys have 40-50 lbs on me. This is 30mm/2.6 on 650b. I just can't fathom it. I run 28/32psi and if it goes much under it gets wobbly when you want it repsonsive. 650b, 25mm ID, 2.4's...

I'm running one of those up front on a OG Stans Flow on my Capra. run it at 32psi all conditions. profile is good. love it. not much more to say really.

Schwalbe is launching a 26x2.6 Magic Mary with DH casing and Addix Ultra soft compound weighting in at around 1350g. Protection should be sufficient but rolling resistance should be more than enough!

sadly neither. plain ol' black ano. as far as i can tell the DH cranks were only ever offered in black, red, or blue.

Last February I rolled up some 26" Velocity Blunt 35's (30mm internal width) ran them with 2.5WT Shorty's, 2.4 DHR2's and tried a 2.3 Shorty on the back for a while, even trimmed down an old 2.5 DHF for a faster rolling rear and they all worked great.



Have yet to try 2.6's and I'm not sure if I care to, considering how great the 2.35-2.5 tires work nowadays.

There shouldn't be an issues finding rims in the 30mm range for 26" as Stan's, Velocity and others still make 'em.
