Looking to get something around 500 not really sure what i want exactly or what i should even be looking at. I do mostly road riding but would like to get into the local trails which have rocks,sand,dirt small jumps ect.

I went local but the guys were trying to get me into 1k plus and im not getting that serious yet.

Is there a club near you that is MTB oriented? There may be a few guys who ride around you who can point you in the right direction, and give you an idea of the sort of bike you may need, to get where you want to go.
