:rant:I just read they are planning on releasing Star Wars in 3D back to the theaters. Does anyone else not give a crap about this whole 3D trend? I don't wear glasses or contacts, so wearing glasses for 2 hours sucks and for the most part, I don't think the movies are worth close to $20 a pop. The last thing I want to do is wear glasses while I sit at home and watch tv.

And in five years, Star Wars will get re-released in enhanced 3D, and then the IMAX directors cut will follow a few years later, and then the secret Jedi version will get released on Blu-Ray. How many times are these movies going to get re-packaged and re-sold?

BTW, I don't go to the 3D movies because they don't "work" for me....something about my eyes not cooperating with each other so I only see in 2D.

agreed. Until the movie screen wraps up around the side of the theater and the glass lenses extend to the temple of your head or they find some other way to not make it look so damn flat persevering it ain't worth it.

Glad I'm not the only one that doesn't like 3D movies. I hope its a fad that will go away. I read somewhere that you pretty much have to have 20/20 vision to truly enjoy the movie. When I went Avatar half the people were complaining of headaches as we were walking out.

I was watching 3D tv at Best buy and couldn't help but feel the need to kick my own ass for wearing these huge glasses. If they were the old school paper ones with the colored plastic film lenses, then I would be down because those actually look cool.

in the spring youll see plenty of mfg's coming out with 3D sets that dont require you to wear the shutter or other types of glasses.

I have 20/15 in both eyes and still hate it. I'm not used to wearing glasses, which I think makes it suck even more. I agree with Rice on the IMAX. The milking of Star Wars is a different rant I guess, I am just over the 3D movies. I have gone to see a few of them and would rather have seen the normal versions both times.

I sure as hell don't plan on buying a 3D tv.

And yet still equally as gay?
only slightly less.
unfortunately, 3D isnt going anywhere anytime soon. all mfg's have gotten behind 3D and if they havent, they will when the new panels that dont require glasses become readily available for next year's models.

As my wife would say "George is printing his own money." I grew up with SW and have no desire to see it in repackaged 3D.

Add 3D to the overrated list...

I didn't grow up with star wars, and I didn't particularly love it, but I saw the new(er) version on spike the other day and thought it was garbage. All that CGI added in just to make stupid **** look stupider. Keep the muppets, thank you very much.

this is just George Lucas cashing in. Nothing new about that.

I'll be interested when he releases the ORIGINAL cut of the original 3 films on blu-ray. Doing so will require a complete remastering from an original backup or something (read an article on gizmodo or something about it) and the cost is apparently pretty astronomical (hence why it hasn't happened yet)

theyve done it with other old movies and turned them into BD masterpieces.
it will happen in time

"Sure you already have it, but you need to buy that again in Blueray! It's going to be sooo awesome in Blueray, so you better buy it! You don't want it?
How about... 3D! You don't have it in 3D yet! It's going to be killer! You can watch that dude french his sister in 3D! He's not going for the 3D...
Holy moly, we mined out some ancient script and redid the whole movie with different actors and moar explosions! Acting skill and script quality don't matter if sh!t blows up and you saw the actresses cooch on the interwebs! You're gonna miss it dude!"

How about you a$$holes come up with some new sh!t instead of trying to sell me the same tired crap over and over? Seriously, SOMEONE is writing good scripts out there!

no doubt, but I doubt Lucas is willing to spend the money to restore the original trilogy now when he has the "enhanced" version essentially ready to go.

I think the article I read saying something that the original reels of the film don't exist any more, and they would have to use back up reels that would need to be pieced together. Basically a super intensive process.

when he runs out of different superlatives to name his movies, theyll be a remastered version im sure.

if would be easier to re-master a film thats in segments since they go frame-by-frame in the remastering process.

i hated star wars so it makes no difference to me.

i also think 3D is stupid and have been saying it for years

others hear seem to echo my opinion on 3D.
i LOL at the early adopters of the newer generation sets, who of course, paid a massive premium over 2nd and 3rd gen sets :)
i agree on early adopters. 3d fizzled out in the 80's. This time around, I think it might stick.

because they're running out of other options to convince people to upgrade (aka repeat purchase)
its not working. the market was over-saturated as of last year. most mfg's are sitting a crap load of panels that are not moving because of the large pushes last year and the dramatic price drops that happened then. sales this year have dropped off over previous years and probably wont see a surge in sales until spring/early summer of next year.
this years holiday season will see tv prices drop faster than ever so mfg's can dump their remaining inventory before new models arrive...and to stir sales of course.

Only 3D thing I ever enjoyed was the "A Bug's Life" theme screen at Disney and Spider Man ride at Universal. The spiders dropped down and then little things poke you in the back. Wife quite literally peed herself.

And got to ride Spider Man with the car tilted at an angle through the whole ride the first time. Try staring at crates, boxes and getting vaguely shaken sideways with angry cartoon characters off to one side.

It rocked once they put us through aiming the right direction though.

I just saw the Panny 65" S1 on bestbuy.com for $1799....that's a damn good price. I'd rather have than than a 3D 50" for twice the price.

...and for some reason everyone seems to be talking about Lucas milking SW, which is also true; however, I was just bitching about paying more for 3D movies and TVs, which, are in a word...$hitty.

thats because is a discontinued model, but the new model is only $200 more.

50" 3D glass panels are expensive, but not $3600 for a 50". they start at $1000 and go up from there.

Yea, I was exaggerating. I think the S2 is the newer model which is still only $2K, a pretty good price for a 65" IMO.
