Ok, I'm sure someone out here probably wonders the same thing or has already tried... But what is the lightest set of 3 piece BMX style cranks avalible?

They need to have the same spline as Profiles with the same type of removable spider, so a Ti axle and e13 Crownwheel can be used. If someone as already tried to put this similar setup together to achieve a superlight race setup please chime in. Can you get it anywhere near a standard Mtb setup in terms of weight?

there is a local kid that races bmx, and has a carbon fiber tube as his spacer between the cups. I installed his cranks, seems to work just fine. could be a good way to lose a bit of weight. He's running some haro house brand cranks, with a ti axle, and ti bolts. pretty fricken light.

That is pretty much the setup i'm interested in, but some weights would help. I imagine 1" carbon headset spacers could possibly work too.

Some of the real weight weenies at the BMX track here are running new XTR with only one ring.

id say get a ti spindle, profile mini crnaks full ti bolt kit, and either carbon center deal or drill and shave the stock one down to nothing

handle bars are the right size to make spacers out of, so if you had an old carbon handle bar around you could cut it to the right length. a friend did this with aluminum bars.

the grip area not the clamp area.

Dunno, but Lars runs them and at Durango I believe he told me his current set he had been running the whole season. He go's kind big occasionally, so they can't be that bad. I've had a run of bent spiders on various cranks and was just intrested in trying something else.

Okay... Do NOT buy the propeller cranks. I saw them on a sub-20 lb bike and thought they were cool... for someone with way to much $.

For what it's worth, I have a set of FSA cranks and BB, and a set of Profiles. I find the FSA BB way easier to set up, and neither one has given me any problems. They work on the same size spindle.

Not to get off on a tangent but someone mentioned a bike w/ 100mm bb shell? I got my hands on a Tomac 204 which has that same width bb shell. Then, I got my hands on a FSA X-Drive spindle (170mm - actually, it was only 167mm) and it came up short (the 6 7/8 Profile is only about 1/4" longer). The spindle only went into the cranks about 1/3 of the way. Plus, it was waaaay over on the drive side, something like 65/35. There's just not enough spindle.
For even dist. from bb shell center and enough spindle length, I'd need something like a 216mm (4.5" on either side of bb shell center). Does anyone know where I can get my dirty little mits on a Profile/FSA 19mm spindle in that length? I've called Profile and they haven't gotten back to me yet (hopefully they're not my only hope).
Anyone have any suggestions?
Again, sorry, didn't mean to get way off topic, but thought this might be a good thread to ask.

Ive used a long profile spindle in my 100mm BB SGS before. Not sure what the length was, but it worked sweet.

Paully -- you need the 6 7/8" Profile spindle -- I'm using that right now on a 100mm bb and it's hot. That's the longest thing out there anyway...

geez, talk about an old thread.

Anyways the spindle doesnt go that deeply into the crank arms anyways, only about 20mm is required, and a 6.875 spindle will give you about 23mm insertion.

Yes. It is very weird. And this stupid n00b Pau11y seems to be pretty damn good at digging up threads that died months and months ago. :mumble:

Reading that I can hear him saying it, it's kind of tripping me out right now.
When I saw this thread back on the front page... I agree.

Weird.

I felt the same thing, yeah, its totally weird. I hear his voice echoing in my head, but he was always happy, so I try to look on the bright side and rememer him for who he was and not his end.

This st00p!d n00b does searches, but can't seem to read dates. I've been lurking for about 6 mos now and just recently decided to sign up to get some help on a Tomac build. I've also been doing a lot of other reading, originally about Karpiel and his financial/business management, to how Byron at Marz being a knob to the RM owners, to Dexter's wheel decision, to someone lawn darting at BB. But I haven't read anything about the owner of this thread I've resurrected (this maybe a poor word choice from reading between the lines of the responses). Anyone care to elaborate what happened to him? From everyone's responses, I feel as I've disturbed something sacred.

so, can't post a thread without getting "use the freakin' search, newbie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" or some **** like that, nor can you use the seach function to bring up a question within a past thread. hmmmmm....something smells like crabby patties around here.

i'll let someone closer to ssaddict talk about that.

Followed Zedro's post and read thru the Sticky. Wow! Now I know why I like hanging on this site. Despite some of the silly ripping everyone does to each other, the comraderie and love you guys share w/ one another is something sorely in short supply in this world.
Has anyone thought about starting another field for those who've fallen to be filled w/ pics and stories?

Yeah sorry about the flaming. You caught me at one of my less-glamorous moments. I apologize for calling you stupid.
