Yeah nah

This is a common one to see

I count about 10 of those on my typical afternoon dog walking route. The best part is most of them haven't moved in the past 2 years.

Why the release of oil from the strategic reserves?
WTI is back under a hundred a barrel, but retail prices are reflecting a price multiple 10's of dollars more.

There is no supply problem, but there appears to be an excessive profit problem.

In a van.... down by the river
I spent $122 recently to fill up the truck, but I think that was 32 gallons.

On a positive note, I got 21.5mpg on my last tank, which I think was the best mileage I've seen over a full tank. Most of that was highway miles in the mountains.

My f250 holds 48 gallons. I can rarely put that much in it though. I take great pride in trying to calculate how much fuel it will take to fill it up without going over. I got 240 bucks in diesel the other day, I think 43 gallons in Reno. The truck drives very different full vs empty. If I drive slow and get my mileage up I can go 1200 miles on the tank. I’ve done bend to San Diego (1000 miles) a few times on one tank. Towing I get half that. It hurts paying it but it’s rad not haveing to stop for fuel all the time.

Next time you're driving on the east side of the sierraS buy gas in Carson city or Minden/gardnerville. Consistently about a buck fiddy cheaper. At those kinds of volumes it actually matters.

I realized this once it was too late. I was thinking well it must be cheaper in the bigger city. Even looked it up on gas buddy. Shits all backwards there. I think it might have been close to a dollar not a dollar fifty, but who can be certain in these uncertain times.

I've bought gas in CA once in the last 2 years.

Trust me on this when it comes to gas prices along that corridor ;)

Buck fiddy is pretty consistent at some some of the places just south of carson for non-diesel. The goo might be a little tighter.

There's a station down there that sells 91 corn free that I absolutely hoard in fuel jugs and for a short while it was 2 bucks cheaper than 87 just 4 miles away

I always fill up at the state line before crossing into Cali, then in San Diego I fill up at the Indian casino up the road (no state taxes) before I leave. Usually leaves me in the center of it all needing fuel.

Like 80% of the businesses (and both gas stations) in that town are owned by one family. I can't imagine living right there and having that bullshit be your gas supply. Those places dwarf hawaii and every other place people use as an example of 'high gas prices'.
The town looked quaint but I can’t see it justifying that crap. Though I would like to own a town I wouldn’t want to squeeze everyone like that. Probably why I don’t own a town I guess.

Yeah they definitely own the town. It was a hatfield/mccoy situation for a few years, one side won. I work down that way a lot so deal with the hotels and suddenly one day all the hotels were crazy expensive and both gas stations charged stupid stupid.

Other than the burger shack in town I don't spend a dime in that joint anymore.

Got to make sure they can pay the $2B to that Kushner guy who was so helpful to them the last few years.

There were planning to give every state resident 5.5K this year in PFD revenue, which is indirectly tied to oil taxes, as the state loses money when oil is cheap and it makes money when the oil is expensive. It looks like it's going to be 3.3K at this point. For context, it's been around 1K for the last, 10 or more years.

Well if the stock value is related to profitability (I know, wild assumption) then many of these companies are climbing out of a huge hole so it’s not surprising that the profits increased over a year or two ago. I’m not saying they aren’t gouging customers, just that comparing profits to the year before implies last year was some sort of baseline which it probably wasn’t.
