I am a 39 year BMX racer and am thinking about trying 4x racing. Any places to race in So. Cal.? I would also appreciate any advice on which bikes to purchase. Thanks in advance.

In fontana, not far from you, they just built a 4x track. They may not be done yet though. southridgeusa.com

People use full suspensions and hardtails with minimal suspension for 4x and Dual slalom racing.

Maybe you should get a hardtail, becasue your used to racing a bmx bike. Go to bikeshop that has 4x bikes, and pedal some around and see what you like.
