Does anyone know of a site where i can get the standard sizes on crank arms ??
I am making some bashrings(for friends, not for sale) and currently only own 4-104 cranks so need some help with 5-110 sizing.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks

Easy enough. The 110 is the bolt circle diameter (110mm, or 4.3307 "). The other radius you are looking at is 1.853". I also make my own chain guides and this is what fits on all the cranks I mount them on. I just happen to have a couple cranks sitting next to me and the arm width you are looking for varies from crank to crank. The shimano is .665 and the RaceFace is .635. These are probably average widths. Hope this helps.;)

I have 2 Fadal 4020s (one 4 axis) and a Fadal 3016. For CAM I use GibbsCam 2002 and for Cad I use SolidWorks. For programming, Gibbs is the best CAM software I've ever used. At $17,000 for one seat its not the cheapest though. For CAD, SolidWorks is excellent, and it isn't expensive either.
How are you making your guides?

Fadal 4020 with box ways. Only 3 axis though.

Autocad
Solidworks

Know anything about Haas machining centres ?? Looking to get a Haas "super mini mill" for small electrode work in the near future.

How do you find the Fadals. Any probs? How old are they?
I had to replace my spindle after 2 years......thats wasn't cheap.

Haas are good machines. I do hear that you should stay away from used Haas, though. They are more expensive compared to Fadals. Things that are standard on Fadals are options on Haas, especially in the controller. Fadal has a new mini mill too, so you might check those out too.

My machines are 92 and 93 models. I've only replaced 1 spindle and that was 3 years ago. The spindle belts get replaced once a year ( old style 6 belt sets ). Had a high speed upgrade on one of the controllers. I cut plastic (Delrin & Teflon), aluminum (6061 & 7075), and steel (carbon & ss), so I pretty much use the entire rpm range on the machines. I take full diameter cuts in 316 ss with an Iscar 1.00 3 flute insert endmill with no problems. My next machine will probably be another Fadal, possibly a 3020 high performance model with the Siemens 840D controller.:D

If you are interested, I modeled a 110mm crank in SolidWorks that I use as a reference in assemblies. If you want a copy send me an e-mail address to my pm box.

Thanks for all that info. I have actually been a bit turned off by my Fadal. It hasn't been the most reliable machine and the service in Oz absolutly sucks. If you don't (whole heartedly) reccomend the Haas is there something you would reccomend ? Also looking at a Makino(not sure on the model) pretty small and can be used with hand wheels as a normal type mill.(gotta teach the older guys slowly).
Cheers:)
