I posted this in Toshi's local thread but I thought I'd ask everyone. The guys at the shop haven't had an answers either. Any :monkey: s have a 5th E or anyone from Progressive or SC out there with an answer?

so I was wondering why the 5th E hasn't been as active as I thought it had been, and it turns out that the pressure in the IFP chamber had fallen. I brought it back up to 50 PSI, what the Santa Cruz site says it should be for my weight and it's a bit better.

I'm confused, though, since the Progressive lit says that the IFP pressure shouldn't be below 75 psi. Anyone have any thoughts? I don't wanna break this thing.

it all depends on your ride and how much you weigh. i am riding a med intense m1 with a 400lbs ti spring with 145lbs in the ifp chamber and have the volume adjust turned in three full turns and it ride plush, and i am pushing 225lbs. tell me your ride and your weight with gear on and might be able to help. email me at retrofred@hotmail.com

hmmm. I should probably clarify with some numbers. It's a 5th E Air running on a Santa Cruz Blur. I weigh ~150 with gear. On the shock and in the lit it says IFP pressure 75-125 lb, but santa cruz says 50-70 at that weight.

I thought the same thing you did for the longest time, it's okay to run as little as 50 lbs though, the shock says it's okay but the manual didn't get updated when they decided that 50psi was enough. Call and confirm if you want but there's no problem running 50lbs, less than that may be bad, in fact you may have damaged your shock already if the pressure dropped that low.

So in the spirit of wasting time on corporate intranets I called progressive from work (usually hard during open hours) and here's their answer. Because of the Blur's "leverage ratio" (don't really know what that's a ratio of), it can be run at lower pressures, and 50-60 is the correct pressure, as y'all have been saying.

So I guess that answers that one. Thanks everyone.

My shock says 75 to 125 on it too, but the manual I have does not. I think I'm running 60 IFP and 85 main on my Blur. I'm 140#s plus gear. I have run as low as 40 in it but that was too soft. I have heard that lighter riders might need the shock revalved but I'm pretty happy with mine as is.

it's not completely accurate since the rate changes through the wheel travel, but it's making reference to shock stroke:wheel travel.
