5th Element rebound dampening...

When riding today, i noticed that my 5th Element (SC Bullit) was topping out hard with a thud/knock. It would only do it with small, fast bumps and with very little weight over the rear wheel.

the best example would be to drop the bike by the saddle, or quickly push down on the rear suspension. It would top out very badly.

However, under big hits or mid-way through the travel, it rebounds normally with the proper dampening and does not top out.

The Rebound dampening is set in the dead-middle of the adjustment range. It usually works very well there.

It's been just over a year since i bought the bike, could the shock need to be serviced? I don't ride hard or often, and the shock shows no signs of oil or air leakage.

Suggestions?

When that happened to me with 2 different Fox RC shocks, both times it was b/c a seal was slightly blown and some air had gotten in. The topping out was b/c of a small space w/ no oil inside the shock.

I just sent my shock back to progressive for that same problem under compression. I took the shock off the bike and removed the spring so I could compress the shock by hand, I started decreasing the pressure in the air chamber from 120psi and at about 50psi all damping gave up, both rebound and compression even after increasing the pressure again. I'd bet it's time for yours to be serviced, my shock is about a year old too.
